Essay On Becoming A Cosmetologist

Becoming a cosmetologist hasn’t been easy. There are bumps and turns, meltdowns, breakdowns, and many nights studying. Along with the hard parts there are many amazing parts. I found a family that has made me feel like a whole person. My journey is far from over. I have so much more to learn. I can’t wait to get my license because I know that my journey will continue for the years to come. I’ll have amazing opportunities. I am most excited for all of the hair shows and classes that I will be able to go to. I’ll be able to learn different trends and different techniques from all over the world.

If I choose I can take classes in different states, learning their trends and ways. One of the best parts about becoming a cosmetologist is that I can work at a million different salons and meet a million different people and each and every place and person will have something new to offer. The salon that I plan on working at is an amazing place filled with so many people who are all different and are so eager to help me learn. After getting my license the learning and studying and nights of homework won’t end, then I’ll have my own clients and formulas to formulate. I’ll have techniques to study and people to talk to.

It truly is an amazing career path. With this career comes many different paths to choose. Among these paths in an educational director. That is the path I’ve decided on. I hope to become a Redken educator as the years go on. I want to have amazing knowledge of an amazing line. I want to be able to share all of my knowledge with thousands of cosmetologists who stand where I once stood. I want to one day educate at Redken Symposium and travel the world sharing everything I know. I want to know other educators who share a love and passion for the same thing I do.

An amazing dream to ave is becoming a platform stylist. I want to go to shows and stand on a platform displaying my work for others stylists to see I want to teach them easier ways to achieve styles. I want to teach them how to have a love and passion for what they do. Most importantly I want to show people that it is easy to have fun with your career. Change up your techniques, cut a different way, try a new color line. The possibilities with becoming a cosmetician are truly endless. Over time I would hope to retire from platform performing and all of the amazing shows to settle down and teach at a Redken academy.

Teaching people just like myself. I have an amazing amount of respect for all of the educators at The Academy. They have taught me so much, even with our ups and downs. The educators here have really helped me to decide on my future. When they express how much faith they have in me while I work on my clients its an amazing feeling. I can’t wait to make students feel the way that I do. I want to take education and product/color knowledge to the next level. I want to discover fun ways of teaching. When I have reached all of my goals I would hope to inspire many other people to become educators.

My biggest goal is to make amazing cosmetologists out of people who don’t even know how to use a curling iron or a brush for that matter. After school I am definitely going to keep in touch with the academy. I want to know about classes that I could take or classes that are local that I may not know of. I will keep in touch with salon centric to know about whatever classes they have to offer. The salon that I am going to be working for has a large amount of classes that the owner makes sure happens. There is at least one every one to two months. A huge goal is to be certified in so much more then color, cutting, and styling.

I will be trying to attend Redken Symposium every two years. I will also try to attends all of the larger shows that happen every year. Although the shopping and meeting new people at shows is fun, it is truly all about the education. Although I don’t plan on working on the runway or doing photo shoot hair or makeup I would love to attend classes on how to do so. I would also love to become a certified makeup artist so I’ll try to find classes on how to do that. Another great certification or even to have knowledge about, is special effects makeup. That helps to open up even bigger opportunities to a cosmetologist.

Such as theme parks, movies, plays, and even photo shoots. With the right connections and talents some cosmetologists may even have the amazing opportunity of becoming a person stylist to someone who may or may not be famous. Another way I will help further my education is by simply watching videos of favorites stylists. Many stylists have YouTube channels, websites, and blogs. In these videos they share different cutting skills, color applications, formulations, styling techniques and different ways to keep your client satisfied with all of your hard work.

It may sound funny but our clients are really a form of educators too. We learn different ways to keep them happy and to give them exactly what they want. We learn how to deal with different textures and we learn to overcome obstacles. Something that our clients and educators really teach us over the years is why we chose this path. I chose to become a cosmetologist because i know it makes me happy. I have so much love for my profession and I’m still a student. I can’t wait to see how much more I learn to care for my profession over the years. And that is what getting my cosmetology license can do for me. 🙂
