Richard Branson: The Two Best Mentors Essay

They say that everything happens for a reason. Every person that comes into our life and leaves a mark on it, stays there on a long term for a reason. Some people become our work mates, others our friends, or teachers, and very few of them turn into our mentors. A mentor is a person that, by age, is more knowledgeable, has more experience and can guide with his advice a person who is willing to absorb his wisdom. From this point of view, a mentor goes far beyond the professional coaching, becoming a support in different life aspects of the person he’s mentoring.

In reality, mentors are key pieces in our life trayectory. They are the people who positively influenced our personal and/or professional development. Who doesn’t remember that teacher who performed in such a way that he made them discover a passion for a certain subject? Who has not reflected on the importance of a decisive person in their life, call it a mother, a friend, a teacher or a professional figure? A mentor offers a practical learning alternative to transmit specific knowledge to another person, in or outside a business environment.

Integrating a mentoring process in a corporation increases the compromise of its employees, thanks to the mutual satisfaction that results from the personal and professional bond between the mentor (who feels useful to be able to guide another person and knows that his knowledge and experience will not be wasted), and his disciple (who feels respect and admiration for his mentor, who is teaching him how to take advantage of his talents on the way to professional growth).

At the same time, the disciple feels he offers a reliable support to the company, ue to an experienced guide that will accompany and help him solve all his doubts. Thus, a mentor is somebody who helps you grow professionally in a practical way, day by day, but he is also somebody who teaches you how to reflect on and question what you see around you. This senior project was born from the idea of writing about somebody who, in terms of profession and business conduit, has inspired me for the past two years and a half since I have been a part of the Loews Hotels & Resorts family.

The central figure of the Loews Bus Center located in nashville, TN, is Eric Noah Wilson – Director of Reservations Operations, a successful business man in his early 40s, who, in 5 years at Loews, climbed on an invisible ladder from a travel planner to a director of reservations, becoming a respectful icon of persistance, professionalism and success. S. U. C. C. E. S. S. Every human being has an unlimited potential, but if this potential is not fed with the best convictions, attitudes and resources, it remains non-capitalized.

If we nourish our brain and we adopt convictions and new attitudes that give us power, we will activate our potential in order to obtain from better to best results in life, and be successful. For every individual, success has a different meaning. For some people, it can be illustrated very well by buying a luxurious villa or car, by spending a fortune on designers clothes and accessories, while others are happy and feel accomplished with much less than that. According to Oxford Learners’ Dictionary, the uncountable noun success is defined as “the fact that you have chieved something that you want and have been trying to do or get; the fact of becoming rich or famous or of getting a high social position. ” (Oxford Learners’ Dictionary). Despite the fact the out of the pages of a dictionary, the definition of success is subjective, apparently, there is some common topics among the ultra-successful about what success actually really means.

Very rarely does it have to with money exclusively. In the vision of five successful entrepreneurs, success is not associated with money at all, but ed as something much more. personal and universal, as an apogee of all the action behind it. Sir Richard Branson is the UK billionaire behind the Virgin Empire of brands including mobile providers, a record label and a series of international airlines. Yet, Branson finds the interactivity with the work itself the most important thing about his success. “My definition of success? The more you’re actively and practically engaged, the more successful you will feel. ” — Richard Branson

Sara Blakely, the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, believes that failure is a part of success, that one must be fired up, passionate about something. She says that the more you do what you love, the more you are actively engaged in the work you’re passionate about, the more successful you’ll feel and become. “My definition of failure became not trying, not the outcome. ” — Sara Blakely Blakely’s words are technically the definition of failure, it is the decisive point of what success is: a continuous process of attempts and failure, during which one must not be afraid of failure.

She believes that success comes to persistent people, who are willing to try over and over again, who fail, risk, stand up and try it again. In her opinion, success only comes if you are willing to fail, and good things come to those who wait, try, fail and learn from their failures. Willingness is part of the journey to success. If the key to success thus far is that you must be willing to fail and be actively dedicated to your work, the next step toward success must certainly be to persevere. Success doesn’t come easily, but slowly, and as the result of many, any trials and years of perseverant efforts. It’s those who quit, like those who never try, that won’t make it through to success. “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful entrepreneurs is perseverance. ” — Steve Jobs Sharing Blakely’s opinion on perseverance, Steve Jobs reminds us that the key of success in life is continuing to come back and keep going. It is easy to look at successful business people and assume their fame and money came overnight, with no particular effort or failure, yet, rarely is that the case.

By the time these “overnight” successes come to our attention, they have usually put in years or even decades of long, hard and dedicated work. Tori Burch, a successful entrepreneur behind the Tori Burch fashion line, highlight the importance of hard work and the belief in yourself to be and do your own unique thing. “Remember: If the most unique ideas were obvious to everyone, there wouldn’t be entrepreneurs. The one thing that every entrepreneurial journey has in common is that there are many, many steps on the road to success. — Tori Burch It is well known that entering the world of fashion is not an easy process, nor rapid, since there is little room for success in such a crowded industry.

However, Burch became a multimillionaire brand designer by keeping true to the fashion and vision she loves and her belief that other women would want the same style. Thus, she advises people that the journey to success has lots of steps, but we should be carried through by being ourselves and by believing in who we are. Ultimately, Elon Musk is a name strongly associated with things that are changing the world, such as Solar City, SpaceX, Paypal, or Tesla.

This is where his success came from, and it bounces back to Branson’s advice: do the things you love doing, do what you are passionate about. “I like to be involved in things that change the world. ” — Elon Musk Musk intended to change the perception of the electric automobile on the market. He has accomplished his plan with Tesla. You must put your power and your efforts behind what you are truly passionate about in order to become successful and change the world. Elon Musk certainly has.
