Proserpina was terrified as she entered Pluto’s world. Everything was so dark and cold, and she felt very lonely. She missed her mother terribly and all she kept thinking is how she disobeyed her mother and what would’ve happened if she would’ve just listened. As she rode beside Pluto in his chariot she looked around. Everything was grey. The trees had no leaves, and the sky had no color. It was a complete wasteland. The entire world looked like it had caught on fire, yet it was so cold. She noticed a small river and asked Pluto about it. Pluto told her that if she drinks from it then she would forget everything.
Proserpina was not happy about this, she swore to never drink from it no matter how thirsty she was. She also noticed that Pluto had a dog… or what looked to be a dog. It had three heads and it made Proserpina scared. Pluto told her that the dog wouldn’t hurt her unless she tries to get away. As Pluto and Proserpina pulled up to the gate of Pluto’s palace Proserpina was astonished. The palace was gorgeous! It was huge and covered in diamonds, emeralds, and sapphire.
The beautiful jewels were sparkling so bright it almost hurt Proserpina’s eyes! “So…” Pluto started, “what do you think? Do you like it? he asked. “Uhh its… nice, but I want to go home. I want my mother” Proserpina said in an annoyed tone. “But you must stay here with me. I need company. ” Pluto said. “Why me? Can’t you go find someone else? I have a mother who is probably worried about me right now, and as a matter of fact I do not like it here. Its dark and cold and lonely and I hate it. ” Proserpina snipped. Proserpina was really regretting not listening to her mother at this point. She wanted no part in Pluto’s life. All she wanted was to get back to her mother as soon as possible, and she’d do just about anything to get what she wanted.
It’s been about a week that Proserpina has been living with Pluto in his palace. He will not let her go no matter how much she begs. Pluto explained the rules to Proserpina, if she eats a mire morsel of food, then she can never leave his world. Proserpina swore off eating too, she also hasn’t had a drink in an entire week. She sat down at the dinner table with Pluto. She didn’t say anything, but she just sat there looking sad. “Tell me Proserpina, why won’t you give me a chance? Why are you so sad? ” Pluto asked very concerned. “I deeply miss my mother, Pluto, and you’re keeping me away from her.
I’m sorry you’re so lonely, but I have a family who loves me very much and I need them. ” Proserpina explained. “But dear Proserpina, I need you. You’ve given me company and have made me feel complete since you’ve been here. I just can’t bring myself to let you go. ” Pluto said. “Pluto, you’re not understanding me! I don’t want to be here and I refuse to stay any longer! I’ve tried asking nicely to go home, but since it’s not working I guess I’ll start snippy with you. I don’t love you and I never will! You’re not my mother and you will never measure up to her!
I’m going to my room for the rest of the day, and don’t even bother to come check up on me because I don’t want to see you! ” And with that said Proserpina goes into her bedroom and thinks all night of different plans of how to escape Pluto. She didn’t sleep not one minute that night, and it paid off too because she thought up the prefect plan. Proserpina remembered Pluto as an armory in the bottom of his palace. She learned about it when Pluto was giving her a tour of the palace. She planned to sneak down into the armory and grab a spear, a small knife, and a sword.
She then planned to sneak out of the palace and steal Pluto’s horses to make her way back to her mother. The weapons were just in case someone crossed her path and tried to stop her. She believed in herself that she could really pull off her plan. She couldn’t wait to leave and get back to her mother’s safety. The next morning Proserpina didn’t say a word to Pluto. She sat outside on the stairs of the palace going over her plan over and over again in her head. She was excited that this would her last day in this disgusting underworld, but she was also worried. What if he catches me? ” Proserpina thought to herself. “He’d probably lock me up for good, or even worse… he’d kill me. ” Proserpina shook those awful thoughts and kept a positive attitude. Pluto came outside and saw Proserpina just sitting on the steps looking out into the distance. “Proserpina, dear, you haven’t eaten or drank since you’ve been here. I’m worried about your health.
Do you want something to eat or drink? ” Pluto asked. “No. ” Proserpina replied making sure to keep her responses short and simple so Pluto would get the message of her hating him. Alright, if you need anything just ask. I want you to be happy and well taken care of. I care about you a lot. ” Pluto said. “Mhm” Proserpina said. She really didn’t want to talk to Pluto. She felt bad about treating him this way, but after all he wouldn’t let her go and didn’t seem to care how much she missed her mother. Proserpina stayed outside and waited until night time. Meanwhile Pluto went back inside and sat on his throne. He contemplated about his choice to keep Proserpina. He felt bad about keeping her from her mother, but then again he is finally happy and hasn’t felt lonely.
He decided to keep her for his own happiness. Nighttime came around and Proserpina went to her bedroom and waited until she heard Pluto go to his. After an hour of waiting she finally heard his door shut. She snuck out of her room and tiptoed down to the armory. She found what she was looking for. She took a small knife and put it in her sock and rolled her pant leg down over it. She found a sword, and it was very heavy, so she put it in a carrier and strapped it to her back. Lastly she grabbed a spear and kept it in her hand. She made her way back upstairs and out the palace door.
She started running, but very soon after a few steps she heard him. “PROSERPINA JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING? ARE YOU TRYING TO LEAVE ME? NO ONE LEAVES, I’VE TOLD YOU THIS! ” Proserpina was terrified. Pluto ran after her. She tried to run, but she knew he would catch up to her. She turned around and threw the spear at him, but it missed. Pluto was shocked that she would try to hurt him. He kept running after her. Proserpina took out the sword and was pumped with adrenalin. She lunged at him and before he knew what she was doing he ran right into the sword.
It pierced his chest and he fell over dead. Proserpina did what she had to do. She wanted to get away from him and back to her mother so badly. Without wasting a second she turned around and ran towards the palace gates. Out of nowhere Pluto’s three headed dog jumped in front of Proserpina and started growling and barking at her. She screamed and darted in the direction of the river. She had completely forgotten about Pluto’s dog! She didn’t have anything planned in case something like this happened! She remembered what the rived did if she drank it.
It would make her lose her memory. She cupped her hands and picked up a handful of the water. She turned around and saw the dog running at her. When the dog came close to her she threw the water in the dogs face. Some of the water got into the dog’s mouth and the dog stopped in his tracks. The water worked! The dog forgot what he was doing and ran off in the other direction. Proserpina continued to run out of the palaces gates. She couldn’t wait to get home. Proserpina ran into the stable where Pluto kept his horses. She tied the horses onto the chariot and told them to go.
The horses obeyed and flew Proserpina back up towards her world. The flight was long, and she looked out the chariot to see the beautiful palace get smaller and smaller. She wouldn’t miss a second of this cold dark underworld. She was so ecstatic that her plan worked and that she was on her way home. Proserpina fell asleep in the chariot for what seemed to be a few hours. She was woken up by the sound of the Earth opening above her. She parked the chariot in the same field she was taken from a week ago. She got out of the chariot and ran back to her house hoping to find her mother.
Mother! Mother! ” Proserpina yelled all the way home. When she finally made it home she saw her mother sitting outside of the house crying. She ran up to her and hugged her. They both cried in relief, her mother was so happy to see her. “Proserpina! Where have you been? ” her mother asked. “Mother you won’t believe it! I was in the field collecting beautiful flowers when out of nowhere the Earth broke open and a man names Pluto came out and took me to his world! ” Proserpina explained. “You went into the field I told you not to go in? Proserpina why?
I specifically told you to never go in there! You had me worried sick! ” her mother said. “Yes mother, I was curious and I’m so very sorry I disobeyed you. Trust me I’ve learned my lesson and I will never go into the field again. I missed you so much, I will always listen to you from now on. I love you mother. ” “Thank you Proserpina, I’m glad you learned your lesson. I love you too dear, and I’m so relieved to have you back and that you’re okay. Her mother said. They hugged again and went inside. Her mother gave her a big glass of water and made her dinner. They would be together forever now.
