Looking Glass Wars Character Analysis Essay

How can someone else’s choices affect your life and the way you might live? It would be nice if we did not have to worry about anything where there was nothing wrong and everything went your way. Although we live in a world that we do not always get what we want. These struggles are shown in this story by Alyss’ life story and what she goes through. In the Looking Glass Wars by Beddor shows that the troubles and conflicts that a girl can go through can change her dramatically. Young Alyss was very naive and childish , but maybe once she goes through some things not so perfect she will become closer to perfect.

In the beginning of the novel, Alyss is characterized as imaginative, naive, and enthusiastic. Alyss is very imaginative for the reason, “Alyss had the most powerful imagination ever seen in a seven year old Wonderlander. But as with any formidable talent, Alyss’ imagination could be used for good or ill, and the queen saw mild reasons for concern”(Beddor 13&14). Alyss had a very big potential bigger than she knew ,and the queen was concerned because this could be used for white or black imagination.

The queen did not have as big as an imagination as her daughter, but Alyss did have a larger imagination than the queen’s cruel and vicious sister, Redd. She might be a little naive because, “She caught a glimpse of a woman-a queen, surely it was a queen! – inside, waving to the crowds. ‘Mother? ‘(Beddor 73) Alyss thinks she sees her mom, Queen Genevieve. To Alyss when she appears in this strange world she still thinks it is like her world , but she has no idea what she is getting herself into when she jumped into the Pool of Tears.

Alyss does not want to believe that her mother is gone so she thinks she sees her in the streets on a carriage. On page 130 enthusiasm is very much in alyss’ words, “Are you really going to write a book about Wonderland, Mr, Dodgson? ”I think I might, It will be our book, Alyss, yours and mine(Beddor 130). She is so excited that someone finally believes and does not just think she is a foolish little girl. Alyss needs to realize though that he could be using her just to make money off of this book about Wonderland.

In conclusion Alyss has lost some of her imagination and stopped believing in herself a little and no one believes her so she feels all alone , but she has grow a little bit by realizing everything does not always go her way. Alice has now grown up and she is a lot more realizing, loving, and beautiful. Even though Alice thought Mr. Dodgson believed her she realized “You are the cruelest man I have ever met, Mr. Dodgson, and if you had believed a single word I told you, you would know how very cruel that is! I never want to see you again! Never, never, never! ” (Beddor 149).

Alice has now seen Mr. Dodgson’s book and he has gotten her story completely wrong. He twisted her stories into a children’s tale and no one would believe her now. I think now Alice will never talk to Mr. Dodgson again and he will do very well with the book ,but alyss will know it is all lies. In this case Alice is very nervous and loving, “I am asking your hand in marriage’ Leopold explained, ‘But… Your highness, are you sure? ‘ ‘That is not exactly the answer for which I was hoping”(Beddor 171). Leopold is asking Alice’s hand in marriage and she is very nervous ,so she asks if he is sure.

Leopold is very taken back by her answer and was sure she would say yes right away. Alice has found a guy she does not totally dislike ,but she is not in love with him. She is very unsure to say yes to his proposal since he seems to love her so much and she does not feel the same. Alice has grown to be more beautiful for instance, “Twenty-two year old Alice Liddell flitted gracefully from one group of well-wishers to another, her long silk gown trailing on the ballroom’s parquet floor, her black hair rippling down past her shoulders, her skin smooth, unblemished ivory in the light of the crystal chandeliers. (Beddor 190).

Alice is a beautiful woman in a beautiful gown with long black hair and smooth, unblemished skin. She is at her engagement party talking to everyone who are so excited for this lovely couple to be wed. In conclusion Alice has conformed to this world and accepted that she must act and do everything everyone else did to be accepted ,and stop talking about wonderland and accept that it was all make believe. Alyss had changed since she was the little princess in the big extravagant castle she had learned to love, make decisions on her own, and even defeated her villainous aunt, Redd, and become queen.

Since “She had grown to love them, perhaps as a kidnapped person grows to love those who hold her captive ,but it was love. Alyss knew that. “(Beddor 231) she knew what love was now ,and sometimes once you know what love is it hurts. Alyss had finally accepted her new family and became more like the them ,until at her wedding she was taken back to what she had accepted was a childhood fantasy. Alyss may have not realized that she would miss the Lydells ,but now that she is way from them she is torn between her birthplace and where she grew up.

In this case she needed to pass through the looking glass maze, “She landed gently on her feet in the middle of what appeared to be a prison- a looking glass prison. On every side of her were looking glasses as tall as forever ,and no matter what direction she turned she saw her reflection. “(Beddor 300). Alyss had found the looking glass maze and now the Alyssians were fighting and depending on her, but this looked impossible it looked like a prison not a maze. Alyss had all this pressure could she do it her mom had, but every queen had to alyss had to pass this to become stronger than ever can she do it?

After defeating her villainous aunt, “The walrus bowed to Alyss, pleased that fate had granted him the occasion. ‘I welcome your return most heartily Queen Alyss,’ he said. That brought Alyss around. No one had ever called her Queen before. “(Beddor 348). Alyss has taken over her throne and Redd is gone, Alyss is now in her rightful spot as queen. The queendom has been restored to white imagination and a new heart castle is being built for now Wonderland is at peace. Alyss Heart grew from a childish young girl playing pranks to a beautiful queen of heart that is the greatest queen that Wonderland has ever had.

The Looking Glass Wars shows whether a girl goes through a small conflict or a big conflict it changes her especially the way she thinks and acts. A big conflict goes on in this book it changes the way that this land runs and who runs it. As in the place we live people are going through things big or little all around us every day. Sometimes oneself might think their problems is huge but then you need to stop and think someone else out there is probably going through something much worse. if you are going through something stop and think is someone else out there going through something even worse?
