Hi my name is Cecilia Mairea Bjorn, funny name for a German girl right, I am eleven years old today, that means it’s my birthday and my best friend Angie Lofkin is coming over for my birthday party. We’ve been best friends for eleven years now so our whole life we’ve always spent our birthday’s together. I can’t imagen a life without him; he is such a great friend and I know when we are old he will be right by my side at my death bed. I’ll have many guest and a gigantic cake I hope; my birthday party is starting now and all my guests are here, well almost, Angie’s almost always late.
I had a great time with my friends today but now since the party’s over it’s time for dinner with the Lofkins. Mrs. Lofkin is the best cook you will ever meet. Mr. Lofkin is a very large man; Angie says that all day he just sits on his chair sleeping and having bad dreams about his time in the war. Angie’s older brother Killian is my sister Elizabeth’s fiance, fancy word right? In a few weeks is Killian and Elizabeth’s wedding, Angie is going to be the best man and I’m going to be the maid of honor.
Two weeks have pasted already and we only have a week left till the wedding there’s a lot of chaos right now with all of the decorations and clothing and all that stuff. Ever since the wedding which was last week nothings been the same, we haven’t seen the Lofkins, and there are men in uniforms with a swastika on their sleeve outside everywhere. Mom and dad seem to be worried and Elizabeth has been crying a lot; I’m worried about Angie I don’t know where he is; I used to see him every day but I haven’t seen him in over three weeks.
The Nazi’s (is what they call themselves) are taking everyone who is a Jew or in a relationship with the Jews. Today the Nazi’s came and stormed in to our house and took Elizabeth and charged her with treason for marrying Killian; mom and dad couldn’t do anything but we are now going to our basement. Dad today went out and tried to find anyone who needed to hide as well and was happy to find the Lofkins; Mr. Lofkin sadly had to inform us that he found Elizabeth and Killian dead by matter of treason. Mom took it extremely hard she was so heartbroken she barely ate and she just sat around crying and starring in to space for about a week.
Suddenly we had started running out of food and mom went out to go buy some until she came back to the house running with no food scarcely telling everyone to get out of the house; there were Nazi’s coming to storm the house we all had to escape. The only people that was able to make it out was myself, my father, my mother, Angie, Mrs. Lofkin, my cousin Ben, and my aunt Diane. Once we had escaped through the window there were Nazi’s waiting right there for us Ben tried to make a run for it but they shot him before he could get far.
New men started to come this time and there was no reason to fear them; they weren’t scary whatsoever; they were extremely nice to everyone in hiding as they were helping us to be safer. Men started shooting at us and a few of the American soldiers (is what they said they were) and two people in hiding my dad and aunt Diane. Once we were safe I just couldn’t stop thinking about why my own people, Germans, were doing this to the Jews what did they do to them I thought over and over again. How could those Nazi’s think it’s okay for them to take another person’s life let alone someone who did nothing to them, they’re murders!
They’re all cold blooded, selfish, completely evil MURDERS!!! I just couldn’t stand what I was seeing and hearing | was so disgusted at them and myself for being a German. Finally, it was over, the war was finally over; we were safe again. After this the Lofkins and the Bjorn’s decided to move to America and ever since then everything has been just great; Angie and I are both married and have kids and grandkids now. Angie and I are both eighty-one; it’s amazing to think about how long and how close we have been for all these years.
