Should Hate Speech Be Allowed In Schools Essay

In the world in which we live in today, we have many distractions and obstacles that can deter us from the goals and accomplishments that we desire from a young age. At a young age more and more kids are exposed to the harsh realities of the world ranging from the negative words they hear words and even to how they behave and treat their peers in the school systems. With all the technological advances that we have it makes it easier to popularize such words.

Hate speech comes from a long history and has been brought into schools which can breed an entire generation to racist actions and ignorance owards specific categories of people. Many groups have been put into place to stop such actions and they try to bring us all together but with all the laws that were made hundreds of years ago it makes it harder and harder to break up and regulate such things as hate speech. With the groups that try their best to get rid of hate speech, it brings groups that try to grow hate speech and isolate groups such as the KKk and other supremacist groups.

That is why hate speech shouldn’t be allowed and shouldn’t be encouraged. Regulating hate speech wouldn’t go gainst the 1st amendment because of how much the world has changed since the law was put into place. The 1st amendment was put into place to give the people a right that the government could not take away. But even during the world war the freedom of speech was quickly turned away. Anyone speaking anything of hate towards the United States and what they represented were jailed.

The difficulty of defining hate speech significantly complicates attempts to draft Lucas 2 laws against hate speech. Despite the court rulings, many people assert that restrictions on hate speech are ecessary because such speech is demeaning and creates uncomfortable on campuses and workplaces. The court rulings have no direct correlation to what’s really going on in the real world. They don’t see what really happens in every part of the world. The amendments and court decisions can’t speak for everyone and their independent experiences with hate speech.

If they were to take account for everyone, there wouldn’t even be any need for a change because majority of the people would agree. Because there aren’t laws group on the internet can thrive. Hate speech on the internet has been growing rapidly ecause of how most of the world uses the internet. Hate speech on the internet gives more people an outlet to say things that they wouldn’t say in person. On the internet it would be harder for these people to get caught and own up to anything they said because of how easy it would be to manipulate the system and blame it on another person.

Hate speech on the internet has grown rapidly through websites, e-mail,bulletin boards and chat rooms according to a study published by the anti-defamation league last year. Sometimes, words are crimes whether terroristic threats, government bribes or security rauds. Serious threats of physical harm as distinct from rhetorical hyperbole against abortion doctors and their families may be punished(Terrie Albano). Hate speech on the internet has collided with cyber bullying for as long as the internet has been around.

They go hand in hand when it comes to being online. Such popular social media sites as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat people online can hide behind these aliases and personas to Lucas 3 spew their hate speech all over the internet without anyone ever knowing who they are or their agenda. Even on treaming sites such as youtube can be a big a huge part of the popularization of hate speech through racist videos and racist comments and try to cover it up by saying it’s a joke.

The increasing amount of kids on internet is extremely high which would allow them to bring it into the schools while isolated particular students of a different group then themselves. Hate speech in schools should definitely become more regulated because of the place and the emotional impact. Hate speech in schools could lead to a more traumatic experience to a child. The child could believe that’s how everyone thinks of hem and that could lead them to feeling unwanted. In the early 1990’s Russ and Laura Jones, who are black, moved into a white neighborhood in St. Paul , Minnesota.

Not long after their move, a group of skinheads began to terrorize them. The skinheads campaign of intimidation began with racial slurs directed at them as they walked on the sidewalk and columinated in a burning cross in their fenced-in yard(Julia Bauder). These are the type of actions that comes when you allow hate speech in the world. People take it to far and an instance also happened in a school. Tyler harper wore and Anti-homosexuality T-shirt to school, apparently responding to a pro-gay rights event put on at the school by the Gay-straight alliance at the school.

On the front, the T-shirt said “be ashamed, our school embraced what god has condemned”( Eugene Volokh). The fact that this type of hate speech is already in the schools should show how far hate speech has come and how it affects the students. The use of racial slurs and violence it represents should Lucas 4 already cause an uproar. Hate Speech in school should be frowned upon and should be regulated intensely because of the nitial impact it can cause and the psychological issues it can bring about.

To decide if hate speech can hide under the 1st amendment as constitutional or if it should be banned one would have to know the history behind hate speech. Hate speech can be loosely defined as speech that reviles or ridicules a person or group of people based upon race, creed, sexual orientation, religion, handicap, economic condition or national origin(Laura Leets). Hate speech has always had a terrible background and the people who makes excuses for people who uses it are the people who are stopping us as humans from rogressing.

Hate speech gives racist people the upper hand and they can hide behind their ignorance and the law that protects their rights to say it. Hate speech uncovers the haters. It exposes the ignorance, fear, and incoherence in their views. It warns, prepares, and galvanized the targets. lt provides the police with suspects and the prosecutors with evidence in the event of a crime(Tamara L. Roleff). The actions of people using hate speech has quickly turned from writing hate on the person’s house or segregating them from a place to negative websites and just latantly using hate speech when speaking to someone online.

It’s a long and hard process to tell who is doing it but if it were regulated or monitored more carefully it wouldn’t be. To conclude, the aftermath of hate speech thriving for as long as it has has brought upon hundreds of group built out of hate for a specific groups or various groups. Hate speeches has its very negative background and with it come hateful groups and very heinous actions. Nothing good has come from hate speech and it has only been destructive towards the youth and the laws that hate speech ides under shouldn’t be the only reason that these people should be able to use this type of speech.

Hate speech causes underlying issues and shouldn’t be popularized or made for as a joke. Hate speech encourages negativity between races, religions, political views, and sexual orientation. Hate speech should banned just like everything else in this world that is no good for anyone. The destructive behaviors that are imitated by children who already use such behavior and they become homophobes and xenophobes. Hate speech should have never existed and therefore needs to be erased as soon as possible.
