There are several differences between different types of people out there, many which contrast in many ways. The protagonist Jeremy in When Dad Killed Mom, by Julius Lester is one example of contrasting. I am very indifferent towards this character in the novel, we both have different views of the world. Therefore I would not say I won’t be friends with the character. I just have different views with this character such as the way I act, and view the world. We both have different types of conflicts and views of the world, this is why me and the character contrast one another.
How Does the world view the protagonist’s Jeremey from When Dad Killed Mom? Jeremy is Viewed as a young boy who is going through a lot of pain and suffering. His mother was killed by his father in the novel. The world is viewing him as weak and insecure young boy, that is struggling to get his mind of his mother. In the novel, Jeremy is constantly drawing pictures of his mother’s face. He doesn’t want to forget about her. The world views him as he is trying to pull through from the loss of someone close to him. How would the world view someone like me? The world views omeone like me as mysterious and different.
The world views me as puzzling person that not anyone out there would expect. Views of me from the world would be I am interesting person to get to know. I am viewed as deep in thought about things. The world views me as all these types of things, views me as a mysterious person. This is how the world shows and views myself as a person. Then there are ways both me and the protagonist view the world. This is what makes me and the character different the world views us a different showing contrast between me and the character. The protagonist views the world as hard and difficult to go on.
The main character is suffering on the inside knowing it’s difficult to go and live life to the fullest. The protagonist Jeremy thinks it’s hard that his sister chooses her father’s side, rather than her mother’s. He views himself as depressed because he lost his mother. He isolates himself from those around him because he is suffering from the past. Example that shows him being isolated from the Novel would be when he was walking by the cemetery. “I don’t want to go through the cemetery this orning, but if I go the long way around some of the neighbors will I don’t want them to.
This quote shows that Jeremy is isolated and is depressed. How do I view the world as someone would? I View the world as a place to be yourself, a free place to live. Somewhere to be happy and to enjoy life in the world. The world is supposed to be a happy place and people should not isolate themselves, and be hurt. It is suppose to be a fantastic world with great people to help get past things. The world is a great place to live in, with a lot of great people, and great things to do with it. How would he character Jeremy deal with what he is going through?
Jeremy deals with his central conflict by, he gets help from others. He has a teacher that is there helping him one step at a time getting through the state he is in. He does not see it in the beginning, but his father’s last girlfriend cares about him too. It is shown when she tells him that she was on his side, unfortunately he wasn’t supposed to tell his sister or it would start a conflict. He also deals with his central conflict by drawing pictures. He thinks of it as his mother still being there as he draws pictures of her.
Drawing was one of the talents Jeremy possessed, his own sister was jealous that he could draw better than her. Jeremy is shown as a dynamic character, because he finally starts to talk more further in the novel and does not push others away. How would I deal with a conflict Jeremy had? What I would do in his situation is seek for help and guidance. Isolating is not a healthy state of mind, it will affect him later on and it could have serious effects such as wanting to commit suicide in the future. I would seek all the help I could get, and also get my mind off of the situation in some way.
Feeling alone nd isolated is not a good sign for anyone it has negative effects towards you and others. That is the last thing that anyone would want, is for someone to feel alone and broken. If were him I would talk to the teacher right away, the teacher in the book that cares about him. Guidance is what he would need, this could not only affect his emotional status, but his grades would be affected to. Getting that extra person to talk to would greatly help him, then he would not feel isolated, trapped in his own world. It is shown in the novel When Dad Killed Mom, the protagonist felt isolated and alone.
He was stuck in a bad situation of what to believe or trust. Jeremy had cynical trust for his father, because he reflected more on his mother’s side. The boy went through a lot as shown in the novel, and he isolates himself. I could become friends with Jeremy, I understand all what he is going through. I had a share of bad days and can understand how he feels about losing his mother. Seeking the help from the beginning is what he should have done, it would have been the best thing to do. I would have made good friends with the protagonist, I would not let him feel isolated and help him.
