Do you ever feel like you know someone really well just by the way he/she talks or communicates? There are different ways people communicate with each other and most of the time it reflect on their personality or the way they feel about each other. The forms of communication help readers understand the character’s feelings, it also gives an insight on a character’s personality and it lets readers know how hopeless a character can be. The forms of communication also help establish the plot by means of foreshadowing.
A character’s personality helps us know or speculate future events. In the play wit is used to portray a love/hate relationship between Beatrice and Benedick. Wit is a clever humour that lightens the mood of the play, which makes the readers love seeing the two characters together and start rooting for them. Wit is important because it shows that Beatrice and Benedick obviously hate each other, so how are they going to end up together. Witt gives the readers a hard time foreshadowing future events because it is hard to tell if or how they are going to end us with each other.
However even though Beatrice and Benedick always fight and bicker, they obviously know a lot about each other so maybe there is still a chance. “A dear happiness to women. They would else have been with pernicious suitor. I thank God and my cold blood I am of your humour for that. I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man sears he loves me. ” (A1:51:L124-128) In this quote Beatrice displace her hate for love and marriage that she would rather hear a dog bark at a crow than a man confessing to her, which leads the readers to foreshadow that Beatrice and Benedick won’t end up together.
The romantic form of communication is used to show love and affection between a character to another, it is portrayed with deep emotion and the mood is usually serious or intimate. Romantic communication is important because it shows the growing relationship between to characters. Claudio and Hero who admire each other from the beginning, how are they going to get together? Romantic communication makes the readers anticipate scenes between our two characters. “Can the world buy such a jewel? ” (A1:S1:L176) In this quote Claudio admires Hero as a jewel that no wealth in the world could buy.
Regarding someone as a jewel shows affection towards the person which is very romantic. “Silence is the perfect herald of joy. I were but a little happy if I could say how much. (to Hero) Lady, as you are mine. I am yours. I give away myself to you, and dote upon exchange. ” (A2:51:L303-306) Claudio and Hero’s relationship have bloom and they are together now. It is easy to see a happy ending between the two because of their love for each other but sadly they are not the only characters in the play, there are others that can ruin their relationship but love prevails.
In the play dogberryism or malapropism is only used by one character, Dogberry. Dogberryism or malapropism is misuse of words for effect, it causes confusion among other characters which leads to misunderstandings. He also mistakes some words that people tell him which causes more misunderstanding. Dogberry is like the police in the play and because of his use of malapropism, it affects the way he solve crimes because no one would understand him. “One word, sir. Our watch, sir,have indeed comprehended two auspicious persons, and we would have them this morning examined before your worship. (A3:S5:L43-46)
In this quote Dogberry misused the word auspicious instead he should have just said “We caught two suspicious persons. ” which was easier to understand. However Dogberry isn’t completely wrong with what he said, auspicious means success which has to do with the success of Don John deceiving Claudio and Don Pedro. In the quote Dogberry means the two people they caught are auspicious for the outcome of the play. In Act 3 Scene 5 Dogberry had the chance to stop the tragedy but because of the way he uses his words Leonato does not have the time to understand him.
Because of Dogberry and his misuse of words, lack of experience and stupidity(? ) it is kind of hard to anticipate a happy ending. The forms of communication can cause misunderstanding and can lead things in unexpected ways, it is really hard to foreshadow what is going happen in the future. However the way they communicate can give us an idea on how things will go on in the future. The forms of communication is important because it helps us understand a character’s feelings and personality, understanding a character’s personality can help us speculate future events.
