The currency is either a bill that is payable abroad, that is, a currency in a foreign currency or a term from the heraldry. Heraldry is a term for the coat of arms and deals with the art of the wappen, as well as the right. The Divisa was originally a divided field with an inscription within the coat of arms. Nowadays, however, currency is mainly the thought or the choice of a person or group, as well as their personal slogan.
The term is derived from the French devise (motto), which is attributable to a deviser (divide). These words have their origin in the Latin dividere, which can be translated or divided. From this the Latin noun divisa is also derived, which signified the distinguishing sign in the coat of arms, and in particular a field of the coat of arms, which has an inscription.
The concept of currency was introduced by Philipp von Zesen, a German poet of the 17th century, by the designation electoral claim. This is usually the case on a banner printed under the actual coat of arms. Such suffrage is given to coats of arms of persons, families, groups of persons, but also to organizations and communities (municipalities, countries, states)

The above illustration shows two coats of arms. On the left the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Saxony, which existed between 1806 and 1918, and on the right the coat of arms of the Netherlands, which is still valid today. In the lower part there are banners, which adorn a saying: the motto.
