Pistol 19 Case Study Essay

In the case of scenario two, the shooting incident was taken place in a crowd of people when an individual was delivering speech on a slightly raised podium at a range of 25m. A low popping sound was heard by most people in the crowd but the shooter or the gun was not seen by anyone. As a result of the shooting, the victim had a small entry wound in the lower abdomen without any exit wound. In my opinion, the most suitable weapon I have chosen is Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol with an ammunition of Federal Classic Hi-Shock jacketed hollow point 9mm 115 grain ammunition, also used with a sound suppressor.

Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol 19 was chosen to be the best weapon used in this case. Glock 19 is a semi-automatic pistol manufactured by the Glock Ges,m,b. H. designed by Gaston Glock, and its place of origin is Australia. It has 15 rounds with a 4 inches’ barrel. (Glock 19 Gen 4; world guns, glock) The shot was fired in a crowd of people, as such the size of the firearm must be small and light weight so that it would be easy to carry and cover up by the shooter. Therefore, larger size firearms such as sub-machine guns, assault rifles and machine guns are excluded from this case.

Moreover, the recoil of the firearm must be as low as possible so that it is not obvious to the shooter. The firearm must also be very reliable within the range of 25m because there was only a single chance of firing. The shooter had to get the firearm from an illegal source, as such the firearm used must be largely available and cheap in the market. Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol is the most suitable weapon used in this case because it is very compact and lightweight (about 0. 59kg if empty) so very adequate to concealed carry. (Enemy forces, firearm glock 19; the truth bout guns 2011) It has a dual spring guide, which largely reduce the recoil after firing. ((Glock 19 Gen 4) Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol is also suitable for single hand shooting and can be used easily and ambidextrously, leaving the shooter one hand free and easier to cloak. The shooter could be shooting from the back or the middle of the crowd, as such it had to be unobvious to the people in the crowd and the victim that he was holding a gun. Thus, I predict the shooter could possibly be holding his gun at his waist height, at a slight angle of elevation, aiming at the victim.

Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol is effective within a range of 50m and it is very reliable. It is cheap and largely available in the illegal market; therefore it is very difficult to track the source of it for the police. However, the main disadvantages of using pistol are that they have a low power, generating a lower bullet velocity. They are also effective at a range with 50m only with a typical usage of self-defense. According to the evidence, only a low popping sound was heard among the crowd. In my opinion, a sound suppressor was also used along with the Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol.

A sound suppressor is an accessory attached to the barrel of a firearm which reduces or eliminates the amount of mechanical noise and visible muzzle flash generated by firing. The Glock 19 should be used with a ‘lion’ sound suppressor to create a low popping sound in the shooting incident. (shooter’s depot) A revolver was not chosen for this scenario because short barrel models are inaccurate; with the use of sound suppressor it ‘extends the length of the barrel, if a long barrel revolvers is used to improve accuracy, the size of the sound suppressor will make the firearm much easier to be discovered.

Pistol also has a lower power than the revolver as such the bullet did not go through the body of the victim. The ammunition I have chosen to be used with the Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol is the Federal Classic Hi-Shock jacketed hollow point 9mm 115 grain ammunition. It is manufactured by the Federal with a lead core wrapped in a thin layer of metal and has a caliber of 9mm, . 355”, 355 cal. (Federal) According to the evidence provided from the scene, the victim had a small entry wound to the lower abdomen but no exit wound. I deduce that the bullet has a lower penetration power and muzzle velocity.

Hollow point bullet has a hollow cavity in the nose and is designed to expand to resemble a mushroom to cause extra damage when it travels through target and prevent over penetration – therefore the bullet in this case remained inside the body of the victim. It also creates a small entry wound and is also useful for concealed carry. (Ammo, jacketed hollow point bullet) The Classic Hi-Shock jacketed hollow point 9mm 115 grain ammunition by the Federal is fairly lightweight for 9mm cartridges which increases their speed capabilities and it also has a very mild recoiling cartridge.

The jacket is made up of strong metal which reduces lead fouling in the barrel of the gun. (Federal) It expands when hits the target so result in larger wound cavity and stop inside the body of the target. Thus this is the most suitable ammunition used in this case in my opinion. Fully metal jacketed ammunitions are eliminated from this scenario because they have a high penetration power with a less significant stopping power so they would have pierced through the body of the victim. They are only for military use and make a clean entry and exit wound because they provide energy efficiency. Gunnoob)

Soft point ammunitions are excluded from this case because they have exposed lead at the tip of the bullet which aids the expansion of it. The bullet will expand like mushroom and creates a larger wound. The main advantages of using jacketed hollow point ammunitions are that it has a controlled expansion and cause more damage due to the mushrooming or fragmenting activity of the bullet inside the body of the target as such they are considered to be more the more humane ammunition type They are also easy feeing to a semi automatic pistol.

However, the disadvantages of jacketed hollow point bullets are they have a lower penetration power with relatively lower gyroscopic stability from barrel rifling. (Ammo, jacketed hollow point bullet) To conclude, I believe Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol with an ammunition of Federal Classic Hi-Shock jacketed hollow point 9mm 115 grain ammunition, used with a sound suppressor are the most suitable firearm, ammunition and accessory used in case 2.
