Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth” (NIV). This is a statement from the Bible claiming that there is a god who created everyone and everything on this Earth. This has been an unsolved argument since the beginning of time. Whether or not God exists this argument isn’t based on Him. It’s based whether knowledge or belief is the best way to view things. Saying something like, God created the world, you would have to rely on how strong your faith is. Belief isn’t based off of facts. Knowledge is the facts, scientists usually rely on this.
The conclusion of evolution is based off of evidence. Both by knowledge and faith you can draw up conclusions, but for conclusions like how the world started, how we came to be, and if there’s a god, there’s simply not enough proof to satisfy everyone with an answer. Belief and knowledge are similar in a way, however belief relies on no facts at all. Belief is the best way to view things because Creationism overrules the big bang, the idea that God created man is more rational than evolution, and believing in something takes you further than fact.
Creationism in a general sense refers to the theory that God made the world on his own, by miraculous means, out of nothing. In a more specific sense, the one encountered in America today, creationism is the theory that the Bible, particularly the early chapters of Genesis, is a literally true guide to the history of the universe and to the history of life, including us humans, down here on earth. This encompasses a number of beliefs: a short time since the beginning of everything” (Ruse). The idea of creationism is one of the most controversial conversations someone can bring up.
The theory that God made the world versus the big bang theory is yet to be proven. The big bang is based more on facts that seem clear while creationism isn’t. The big bang is the quote, “more logical way,” that the world was created, while creationism is more practical. God creating the world out of nothing and two atoms colliding and creating the world are almost the same in how crazy both sound. “The big bang theory describes the origin of the knowable universe and the development of the laws of physics and chemistry some 15 billion years ago” (Lerner and Wilmoth-Big bang).
The big bang and creation differ in the fact that creationism is based off of religion and the big bang off theory. Also, the big bang refers to time being millions of years old, while the bible only makes references to thousands of years ago. If the big bang is to be true or creationism, there is no way of telling for sure, This is where knowledge and belief come into play. Rationalists or realists tend to lean towards the big bang because scientifically it somewhat makes sense. The fact the theory is based off of is very clear to them. People who rely on faith tend to lean towards the idea of God.
Yet, there isn’t really any more proof than the big bang. Creationism believers refer to is the bible and how beautiful and complex things are. They view things like us as people and nature as something that two atoms couldn’t have just created from nothing and trust faith. Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (NIV). Evolution is the measured change in lifeforms overtime (Lerner and Wilmoth-Evolution). The idea of evolution is based off of fact. The knowledge that scientists have of fossils and bones explains their theory.
While by the faith of christians explains their theory of God creating man. “Evidence for evolution comes from the fossil record, genetics, and comparative studies” (Lerner and Wilmoth-Evolution). The study of apes skulls and humans do show similarity, and they can lead to the idea of evolution. There is some belief in this theory as there is in most theories. However this differs from the idea of God and man due to the fact this theory relies on solely belief. There is no proof to backup this idea, other than like in creationism, how complex everything is.
The argument associated with this that can be brought up is, how did the apes get here. This usually refers back to the big bang theory. One of the most common contradictories with the idea of Evolution is if evolution did happen, why are there still apes here, or why is isn’t evolution still happening. Well this is a question yet to be answered but in some ways it can be explained. “Evolution does not proceed at a constant rate. At times, a gradual change occurs that allows for a good reconstruction of the process from the fossil record.
This is known as phyletic gradualism”(Lerner and Wilmoth-Evolution). If this is true about evolution then phyletic gradualism has taken place for the past hundreds of years. As for creation and questions about why God doesn’t show himself or prove He is God, leads into the next argument. Most people don’t realize it, but they believe in things more than they think. Most of the american population hasn’t legitimately seen a million dollars, yet they still believe it exists. Yes there is proof backing it up but it’s still belief.
The same as kids believing in santa, then knowing he’s not real is knowledge and belief. It is often objected that knowledge cannot be a kind of belief, even though they can have the same objects, because they exclude each other. If I know that p, it would be wrong for me to say that I believe it, since this would suggest that I do not know it. If, knowing p, I am asked “Do you believe that p? ,” I should reply “No, 1 know it” (Quinton). The idea that believing something then finding it to be true can be confusing, but if it’s thought out it makes sense.
The idea of creationism and the big bang relate to this. Even though creationism is is related to belief in God, the big bang is related to belief in general. There aren’t enough facts to prove the big bang therefore people believe the theory. If facts came up, then it would become knowledge. The theories of creationism, evolution, and the big bang will always remain an unsolved argument. It will be based on opinions and beliefs never on facts. However people can tend to lean to one side or the other because of their knowledge or belief.
One way is by believing in Jesus Christ and Creationism. Facts and knowledge are a good way to look at things, However people are missing the bigger picture. Every painting has a painter, every book has a writer, and every creation has a creator. The creation of the world having to have a creator is philosophy, and the only practical explanation is Jesus Christ. Romans 1:20, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse (NIV).
