Water is a vital substance that is required to survive, without it we can suffer from severe dehydration and possibly even death. The Mayo Clinic Staff states in “Water: How much should you drink every day? “, that “Every system in your body depends on water. For example water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose, and throat tissues” (Mayo Clinic Staff). This elaborates on how your body uses water to keep your body healthy.
But you have to keep your body replenished with water in order to stay healthy and hydrated, to do so you must do the bvious and drink plenty of water. Then comes the choice of where you get your water from and the safest would be bottled water. Not only is bottled water safe it is also portable, and economically contributive. Having portable clean drinking water can potentially be life saving, going without water as stated before can cause tremendous health issues that can lead to death.
The first thing people do when there is news of a natural disaster heading their way, specifically hurricanes, they stock up on the essential that are needed for survival. Among these essentials is bottled ater, hurricanes cause many to go without power and without power means without water. These power outages can last for days even weeks, so the only solution to this is bottled water. Even after these disasters how are people to know when the water is truly safe, take in consideration that these disaster can cause a significant amount of damage to land and anything on the land, many of these things take weeks even months to fix.
Another factor of portability that water bottles bring is the possibility of sending it to third world countries that do not have access to clean water. In majority of third world countries people are not able to just put their water on a stove and boil it. Most of the time people in these countries have to travel long distances just to have any access to a water source of some sort. It is stated in “Improving Health in Africa… begins with access to safe Water” that “In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water- related disease. Clean and safe water is essential to healthy living. ”
With 80% of illnesses being caused by dirty water having he ability to transport clean, safe, sealed water to these places is outstanding. People are very fortunate to be able to be born in the U. S and not have to worry about having access to water because it is everywhere, on the other hand people in other countries aren’t as fortunate. So having the ability to transfer this vital substance is saving lives.
Bottled water is closely monitored by the FDA on a daily bases, and in the instance of a something going wrong bottled water can instantly be recalled. Stores can remove all the bottled water from their shelves so that customers cannot purchase it. In ” FDA Regulates the Safety of Bottled Water Beverages Including Flavored Water and Nutrient-Added Water Beverages”, it is stated that “FDA monitors and inspects bottled water products and processing plants under its food safety program.
When FDA inspects plants, the Agency verifies that the plant’s product water and operational water supply are obtained from an approved source; inspects washing and sanitizing procedures; inspects bottling operations; and determines whether the companies analyze their source water and product water for contaminants. ” (U. S. Food and Drug Administration. . This exert goes to show that there are many aspects of the bottle water industry that are closely inspected. This insures that bottled water comes from a safe reliable source and that the places that are responsible for packaging the water is clean.
This also relates back to third world countries, if you compare water from there and water that is bottled, bottled water is significantly safer. The safety of bottled water and the portability combined could take the 80% of loss of life and possibly decrease that. Economically the bottle water industry brings a surplus of jobs, nd in this country jobs are needed. Just think you have all the people that have to test the water, package is, transport it, and make innovations for it.
It states in “Bottled Water Matters”, that “Bottled water manufacturers, along with their wholesale and retail partners, directly or indirectly employed approximately 471,700 Americans in 2013. These workers earned $25. 0 billion in wages and benefits. Members of the industry and their employees paid $9. 7 billion in direct federal, state and local taxes. In addition, the consumption of bottled water beverages throughout the country generated $2. billion in state sales taxes. “(International Bottled Water Association).
Therefore, the bottled water industry isn’t just helping people, it helps the federal, state, and local government. If the industry was removed, it would also deplete millions of jobs and other companies that rely on it. Millions of people would be without jobs and cause devastation in many. Not only would there be a loss in jobs, there would be a loss of safe water for disasters and no way to transport safe water to third world countries. Bottled water has made a huge contribution to the economy and veryday life without it people would be in a great amount of trouble.
Many people may argue that the plastic bottles used for bottled water harms the environment and that millions of bottles end up in landfills but in reality the bottles are made so that they are recyclable. Yes the rapper and the cap are yet to be recyclable but the industry are working everyday to make these innovations happen. But for the plastic bottles it is possible, the only explanation for them ending up in landfills is the negligence of the consumer. The industry cannot be blamed for this, they ave no say so in whether or not the consumer does the right thing and recycles the bottle, they just make it possible.
If the population would actually take the time to recycle the bottle the environment wouldn’t have the issue of plastic bottles being thrown in landfills. So it is a bit hypercritical to say that plastic bottles harm the environment when in fact it is the consumers fault. The plastic bottle is just an object and has no control where it ends up, therefore it is the consumers job to put it where it belongs. Another argument that comes up with bottled water is the hemicals getting into the water from the plastic.
But that’s not the only product that people buy that is packaged in plastic, people can not single out just bottled water when in fact there are millions of other things that are packaged in plastic. Things like cereal, soda, milk, some egg cartons, candy, rice, beans, cheese, etc. , are also rapped in plastic, So where is all the controversy over that? There is none, so many things have plastic in its packaging and there is no argument to ban its packaging. Plastic bottles used for bottled water cannot be singled out, if people are going to cause so much turmoil over lastic packaging it should be for all plastic packaging not just one.
There are four basic necessities of life: food, water, oxygen, and shelter. Without any one of these things the bodies survival is put at risk, water is needed by every system in the body and without it comes severe consequences. The safest, most portable, and economically contributive is bottled water. The industry frequently comes up with new innovations, every brand of bottled water changes with thinner, clearer, and safer plastic. It brings jobs, saves lives, and is flat out safe. 5 OF 5
