Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Essay

For the last three years, I have had the honor to serve as a staff RN at UT Southwestern Medical Center within the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Over the years, I can honestly say that from my experiences, my philosophy in regards to nursing has grown. I truly believe that individuals health needs should be met utilizing a scientific and holistic approach. Alleviating individuals worries and pain are just as important as maintaining physiologic homeostasis. My overall experience as a critical care nurse has contributed in my growth professionally and personally.

I have given the field of critical care all that I have with great passion and respect, and yet I long to give more. In fact, my desire to becoming a Nurse Anesthetists, grew after shadow a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA). I obtained invaluable insights as to what the daily challenges and rewards of a nurse anesthetist. The shadowing experience was confirmation to me that I was on the right path to that thirst for I that my passion lies within the great challenges involved in clinical pharmacology and critical monitoring skills.

For this is where each decision | make impacts a human life tremendously. Using my knowledge, skills, and passion for teamwork I will give all that I can to save each and every life. a Doctorate in Nursing with focus on Anesthesia degree through your prestigious CRNA program, will make my life long dream a reality and will be able to serve the community at a higher level than I could ever imagine. This new career path, I can accomplish my goals. First, I want to allow access to anesthesia to individuals within a rural setting.

Second, I want to accomplish patients and physicians goals by promoting patient comfort by alleviating pain while maintaining their hemodynamics during surgery. Third, actively advocate for the anesthesia profession by participating in law making decisions that affect patients and anesthesia practice. Lastly, promote evidence based practice by mentoring and teaching medical professionals from a clinical experience standpoint. O In conclusion, The University of Pittsburgh is my sole choice for academic development. I am eager to learn from and interact with your accomplished student body and expert faculty.

As a student in your program, I am sure that I will gain the needed education and foundation in becoming a sound advanced practitioner. I strongly feel that, my passion for challenges, clinical acumen and love for teamwork, I am an excellent candidate for your program in Nursing Anesthesia. I truly believe that nursing involves providing caring for individuals and meeting their health needs through a scientific and holistic approach. With a combination of science and holistic care, individuals emotional, physical needs are met. Which in term promote healing. In order to meet. My aspiration for pursuing a doctorate in nurse anesthesia was challenging. In October 2007, my mother had passed from a massive heart attack. My mother was a smoker and had heart issues. Due to her impoverished background, she knew very little about health education.

After my mothers death, I decided to pursue nursing. My goal to meet individuals and their family health needs through a holistic and scientific approach. I truly believe that an individual response to diseases are dependent on emotional, social and economic factors. While attending nursing school, My first encounter with a CRNA was in critical care rotation in nursing school. My first encounter with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, occurred during an intubation in nursing school. Though I was amazed by the entire experience, it was the Nurse Anesthetist that truly captured my attention.

The encounter was intriguing to watch, as he took control of the chaotic situation and demonstrated autonomy and knowledge. For example, he asked pertinent questions regarding the patients’ electrolytes and history demonstrating a strong foundation in his practice. After watching the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA),. Needless to say, I was eager to learn more about Nurse Anesthetist as a profession. After researching requirements to becoming Nurse Anesthetist, I couldn’t see myself doing anything differently.

My interest in Nurse Anesthesia began in my critical care rotation in nursing school. The patient was restless and gasping for air. The registered nurses quickly responded to the emergency by calling for an emergent intubation. Immediately after calling for assistance, a male wearing a surgical cap and a badge that read CRNA showed up. Though I was amazed by the entire experience, The Certified Nurse Anesthetist truly captured my attention. The encounter was intriguing to watch, as he took control of the chaotic situation and demonstrated passion, autonomy and knowledge.

For example, he asked pertinent questions regarding the patients’ electrolytes and history demonstrating a strong foundation in his practice. After watching the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), I was eager to learn more about Nurse Anesthetist as a profession. I spent countless of time researching what it takes to become a successful CRNA. While still in nursing school, I strived to obtain a strong academic foundation. Though my overall GPA is 3. 3, I was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Nursing International Honor Society.

Following nursing school graduation, I was still hungry to learn more about the profession. I began working in an 32-bed ICU in a rural area. I was fascinated with the amount of critical thinking skills required to care for ill patients. Less than a year, I was thirsting for more challenges. I relocated to UT Southwesten Medical Center. A biomedical Institution.. At this insitution, I expanded my critical thinking skills. …….. attended the Diversity in Nurse Anesthetist Mentorship conference at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The conference featured very influential speakers. They provided an insight into the industry regarding the challenges and rewards faced by Nurses Anesthetists. Consequently, after listening to the speakers, I was determined to pursue an advanced nursing career specializing in nurse anesthesia. With the goal to enter a Nurse Anesthetist school, I worked diligently to obtained my bachelors in Nursing at Midwestern State University. I not only improved my grade point average, but I also built a solid foundation to become a nurse.

My hard work was realized when I was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. I also received the Mustang Honors award. These accolades have continued to motivate me to achieve excellence in my work. Moreover, after graduation I trained in a Medical Intensive Care Unit. As an ICU nurse with over two years of experience, long for challenges. When the opportunity presents itself, I elect to care for the most complicated patients. Even in a stressful environment, I practice calmness while diligently analyzing the situation.

Further considering my assessment, I made critical decisions and intervene as needed. Due to my dedication to extending my knowledge as a critical care nurse, I obtained my CCRN. I used my newly acquired skills and knowledge to not only prepare for success in nurse anesthetist school but also, to spread health knowledge within my community and my fellow nurses during skill fairs. Furthermore, my goal is to promote patient comfort by alleviating pain and maintaining their hemodynamics during surgery in order to create an environment conducive to accomplish patient and physician goals.

In addition, I plan to become an active leader within the profession in ways such as influencing laws that affect anesthesia practice, aiding in the advancement of anesthesia and mentoring others inte nurse anesthesia. By obtaining my Masters in Nursing with emphasis on Anesthetist at Middle Tennessee University, I plan to gain the necessary skills needed to have political influence as well as conduct the sound research needed for the continuation and advancement of the profession.

In conclusion, Middle Tennessee Nurse Anesthesia Program is my program of choice. With its scientific and front loaded approach, I am confident that I will obtain the strong education and foundation need to become a quality practitioner of anesthesia. I have the needed skills and background needed to successfully complete the program. Therefore, I am asking to be considered for admission into Middle Tennessee Nurse Anesthetist Program.
