Argumentative Essay: Women In The Military

Women in the military are just a distraction to the men. I don’t see why women are a distraction, they go through the same training and pain and everything else. As women and men go through the same stuff everyday the men still think women are not capable of being in the military. Women train right along men everyday and that’s not a problem but when it comes to the actual war it becomes a problem, that’s why the women get the easier jobs in combat. Women get the less dangerous job in the military so it’s less distracting for the males. The women being a distraction is kind of how everyone looks at Jim in the ook ‘Huck Finn’.

They all see Jim as a slave and as someone to entertain people. Women were also captured in combat to be used as leverage to get the enemy to back down. Most people assume women can’t handle being in combat, due to the training and all the stress it puts on them. Even though women were strong enough to take care of a big family with very little help. Just like how a seven year old girl from To Kill A Mockingbird’ took care of her siblings and drunken father all by herself. They say women are incapable of holding in their emotions and taking the horror a war inflicts.

Some women would dress like a guy so they could get more respect in the military. It’s kind of like how Scout, the girl in To Kill A Mockingbird’ acted like a boy so she could do what the men did. If a woman chooses to be in the military then they should get the respect and honor that the men do. If a woman thinks she is capable of going threw the tragedy of a war then she should be able to do that without being set to a lower level then the guys. A women should be honored for putting her life on the line for many others. In the 1980s women comprised about ten percent of the active nlisted and officer forces. In 1988 the “risk rule” came out by Secretary Weinberger opened many positions to women that had been closed, particularly combat support positions. The Army and many types of Navy surface ships, and most non- combat aircraft. Army and Marine Corps with the only large number of combat positions closed to women. During the early years of the address verification system, manpower shortages led to increased utilization of women to fill a large variety of non-combatant positions. The position the women gets can also depend on what country the women is in.

Some countries wouldn’t allow women to have a ‘hard’ job in the military. Norway became the first country to allow women to serve on its submarines in 1985. Norway was, along with Israel, first to allows women to serve in all combat roles in the military in 1988. Women have been able to serve in all positions in the Swedish military since 1989. In France women can serve in most areas of the military except submarines and riot control. In 1989 most women were in the air force or coast guard, about fifty persent were in the Army or Navy and very low amount of women where in the marine corps.

In 1989, a tribunal appointed under the Canadian Human Rights Act ordered full integration of women. In the Canadian Armed Forces at least within the next ten years. Submarines remained closed to women until 2000. For any of the women that are fighting in the military around this time would get punished if they fell behind. They would rather be thrown out of combat, some would get beat or left behind. In 1990 the British opened seagoing positions on combat ships of the British Royal Navy to women. Women then began training to become a fighter pilots in Canada and Denmark.

Then, the New York times did a aftermath of the Panama invasion on the women that want to serve in combat. Also in 1990 the did approve for women to be in combat and over fifty percent of the people said the women that want to be in combat should be in combat. In 1994 the Department of Defense officially banned women from serving in combat. The first female commander of a Norwegian submarine was Solveig Krey in 1995. Also in 1995 the United Nations fourth world conference on women in Beijing urged government to make commitment to ence on women status. During this time most of he women are in the nursing branch. The problem people have with the women is that if they become pregnant the nursing branches would lose lots of members. There are not many guys in the nursing branch, therefore they will be understaffed. It took many years for people to realize that women are very useful in many ways in combat.

Nowadays it’s easier for people to accept women in the military. A women could do almost anything she wants nowaday in combat, as long as they go through the training that she needs. Some people still look down on women being in the military, but it’s easier for them to ccept the fact that the women wants to be in the military. Today there are over two hundred thousand women serving in the military. All positions in the U. S. military would now be open to any member of the armed forces who can meet the standards. This means that women will now have the right to serve in every position in the U. S. military. Women must now also share the responsibility to be called upon to serve and defend their country in the event that a draft is required. In the wake of Secretary Carter’s announcement, Congress should now require young women to register for the Selective Service

System. Positions are opening to women that are much needed national dialogue about who should serve and who is responsible for defending the nation. The women that serve in the military now and in the past are inspiring many other women to step up and take the challenge of fighting against many others. As evidenced through american history has shown progress in many ways, and will continued progress as time goes on.

American history will progress in better ways towards women in combat, by allowing women to enroll in the military at the same age as the guys. Women will so be able to do anything hey please to do in the military, That means if they want to stand front line then they get to stand front line. Women will so be able to be in charge if they would like to be, and be able to take charge, went needed. Women will be generals and will as high up as they please to be. In the future women in combat jobs will mean more women in defense jobs once they leave the military. If you were a nurse in the military, you could easily find employment as a civilian.

Women interested in furthering their defense careers after the military may consider going into law nforcement, providing private or personal security, or trying to land a military advisor position with a defense contractor. It’s also important to note that since these women will have the opportunity to gain the same experience as their male counterparts in the combat world, they will also be just as competitive as their male counterparts in the post-military job market. Women into combat roles will be gradual and so the integration of women into those male dominated contracting jobs will also be gradual. It will happen so slowly over time that you probably won’t even notice the small shifts here and there.
