A numeric form is used as a number in the grammar to express quantities. Thus, the number that a term describes can be recognized. In the German grammar, we distinguish between singular (singular) and plural (plural). In German, the nouns noun, adjective, verb, articles and pronouns form their own number forms and are therefore adapted to the number of the designated person. In other languages it can be different.
Basically, most words can occur in singular and plural. However, there are also some exceptions that exist only in one of the forms. These are called Singulariatantum and Pluraliatantum. The Singularetantum occurs exclusively in the singular (eg noise, protection, post), the pluraletantum only in the plural (eg parents, siblings, holidays).
singular and plural
The German knows the distinction between singular and plural. The singular specifies the set one. The object is therefore exactly once. The plural is used when an object is more often present. The plural is indicated by the word form (inflection) of the noun as well as by the words accompanying the respective noun (eg the dog – several dogs).
Number: Singular and plural determine the word form and the companions of the noun
How and where the word form varies in the plural of the singular depends on quite different factors. It is important, however, that the plural in the plural is always the same. Thus, the corresponding word in the individual case changes in the singular, the endings being adapted, always remain the same in the plural of the plural. Let us look at the number of different nouns.
Pluraletantum and Singularetantum
Almost all nouns can be used in the singular as well as in the plural. However, there are some that are only conceivable in one of the two forms. A noun, which exists only in the plural, is called Pluraletantum. If there is a noun only in the singular, it is called Singularetantum.
Pluraliatantum – nouns that only exist in the plural (selection)
(In the south, there are trums), circumcision, expenses, vacations, alimony, alcoholics, food, passives, pastoralities, Trivia
Singulariatantum – nouns that exist only in the singular (selection)
White, Background, Isolated, Reflection, Reflection, Nature, Light, Protection, Noise, Protection, Faith, Hunger, Hate, Thirst, post
Short overview: The most important to the numerus at a glance
A numeric form is designated as a number in the grammar. In German, one differentiates between singular (singular) and plural (plural). If a noun is in the singular, it is only a single object, if it is in the plural, several objects are called.
The number is expressed in different ways. On the other hand, the word form changes when a word is in the plural, and on the other hand, the accompanying words give references to the number (plural: many, two, five, all, …).
