Some people make decisions based on racism and sexism. Racism is when people judge others based on their skin color. Sexism is when people judge others because of their gender. Both racism and sexism are mostly based on stereotypes. A good example that show this is the Bike Thief video. In the Bike Thief video, the actor steals a bike that is chained to a sign in a park. The first actor to do it is a young white male. He uses a hammer, bolt cutters, and even a saw. When he is stealing the bike, people look at him weirdly, but don’t do anything.
A couple of people ask him about it, but just keep walking. The only people that told him to stop were an old couple. Only those two people out of the one hundred that passed by that day did anything. That is two percent. The reason that people didn’t do anything could be because they are scared of what the guy might do if they intervene. Or maybe they just think that since it isn’t their bike, then it isn’t their problem. The next actor to steal the bike is a young black male. Within seconds of him stealing the bike, people were confronting him.
People started calling the cops and a crowd had formed around the guy. This is due to racial stereotypes. John Dovidio, a psychology professor at Yale, says that ,”These racial stereotypes are infused in all of us, I mean, it’s part of our culture,”. People like to think that justice is colorblind, but it is not. The next actor to do it is a young white female. When she starts, the first guy that passes by helps her steal the bike. People might do things so that they don’t come off as racist or sexist. Like helping the person steal the bike.
Every time that the woman was out there stealing the bike, a man would always come to help her. One man was even helping the actor while he was on a walk with his wife, who was mad at so. im for doing so. The only people who try to stop the woman are other women. One man that helped her said, “You don’t know if she’s lost her key, or if they’re trying to take it, but then again, she’s a girl. ” People don’t expect girls to do anything wrong, because they are girls. John Dovidio says,”Beauty is good, so how could a good person do something that is bad? Though people might not think so, racism and sexism do exist.
Kid leashes can be useful, but some parents might abuse the use of the leashes. Leashes can be used for discipline, to teach kids not to run off, and to make sure that the kids stay close to heir guardian. Parents might use a leash if their kid likes to run off or if the child has a disability. Parents who use leashes on their children might be called ‘lazy parents’. That might be true, but the parent/guardian might have a lot on their hands. They might have a bunch of kids, which in that situation, leashes would be useful.
If one child runs off, the parent can run and go get that child. But if more than one child runs off, if there is only parent there, the parent wouldn’t be able to catch up. It is a safety issue for the children. An experiment was done where a other had her kids on leashes in public and treated them like dogs, even tieing the children to a pole when she was going into the store. The mother and her children were all actors. When it was the mother with one child, there were just a few comments. One person intervened. The person was a mother and a social worker.
When the leash was tied to the pole during the first experiment, people took pictures, but didn’t say anything about. When one of the people who took the pictures was asked about it, he said,”It’s not my place, It’s not my business. ” The next experiment that was done with the leashes was a nanny and a ack of kids. The nanny was treating the kids like dogs on leashes. During this experiment a teenager gets involved, telling the actor that it is wrong. People don’t seem to like the leashes when they are abused. The next run with the leashes was with a mother that had kids on leashes, but was holding her dog.
When she went into the store she tied up her kids, but carried her dog in with her. People got really mad during that experiment. Multiple people intervened, one woman saying,”I would never tell a mother how to be a mother, but this is absolutely wrong! ” This shows that people don’t like it when parents are abusing he leashes and treating their children like animals. Which is good. I personally think that it is okay to use child leashes, as long as they are used correctly. It all really depends on the situation. Homeless people aren’t bad.
Homelessness is actually a huge problem in the United States. “In January 2015, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States. There was this group of teenagers that would go around and beat up homeless people. Apparently this used to be a thing. There were a series of experiments done with actors to see how people would react to a homeless person being beat. When they had three teenagerss beating up a homeless man on a sidewalk, people were shaken. Soon, an older gentleman escorts the homeless man out of the situation while a younger man disperses the teens.
When the people who stepped in where interviewed about it they said things like:”No one deserves to be treated like that”, or,”l don’t assume that other people will step in. ” They also did the experiment with teens with a bat. People rushed in to help because “the bat signals that it is an emergency”. This shows that people know that this behaviour is “completely unacceptable”. But it might also be an act of elfishness instead of selflessness. As humans, we will help someone to make feel better so that we don’t feel guilty for not helping. NAME AND OCCUPATION) says,”To make us feel better, we put ourselves in the risk to help others. ” When the teens then go against a homeless woman, people flip out. An angry mob forms and people even block traffic.
This is because “women are more vulnerable. ” (NAME AND OCCUPATION) says that people formed the mob to help the homeless woman because: “When we have a sense of community, we are empowered by that sense of community. ” This experiment was one twelve times and everytime people flipped out. That shows that people care about the homeless people in our communities.
Homeless people aren’t bad. People were probably going around and beating up homeless people because they thought that since they had possessions that the homeless don’t, then they are better than the homeless, which is not true. Autism is very common today. At least one in every sixty-eight people are diagnosed with it. Autism is just a different way of thinking or seeing the world. People with autism normally have communication issues. There was an experiment done on how eople would act when someone gets mad at an autistic child.
There were actors that portrayed a family that consisted of the mother, father, daughter, and an autistic son. There was also an actor that would get mad at the family because of the child’s behaviour. When the guy started getting in an argument with the family, people in the diner started defending the child. The other people in the restaurant defended the family and the autistic child every time, and the only person that had trouble with the child or family was the actor that was supposed to. A lot of people have autism and it is not at all a bad thing.
