The difference between Ethiopia and America culture There is a lot of difference between my culture and the USA. And I really love my culture because I grew up on it. Now that I am in america I know American’s culture. When I compare these two cultures, I can see that they are not similar. For example, In my culture most of the time you don’t eat alone, if you eat alone people will not be happy because most of the people in our culture eat together with their family or friends. In the US if you eat alone or if you eat with someone it is OK for people. GENDER In my culture men and women have clearly defined roles.
Traditionally men are responsible for providing for the family and for dealing with family. For example, bringing them money, taking kids to school, they dial outside the home and other stuffs. Women are responsible for domestic work like cooking, washing clothes and looking after the children’s. She the one that feeding them and other things. On the other hand, in America both genders have equal responsibility, they will work equal and live their lives equal. In my culture punishing children is common, they may punish their kids with stick or with their hands holding anything.
As a culture for most of the Ethiopians parents believe that punishing their kids is the right way. because back in a days our great father used to do that, so they learn from their fathers. It became in a culture. But in America most parents don’t punish their kids. It is like, if you beat your own kids and if people see you doing that they may call the police. because it is not legal in America, they usually discuss with their kids. And I think they are right because if you punish your kids very much it is bad for your kids. hey will not have freedom and confidence when they grow up. COUTUME The other thing is costume. The Ethiopian traditional costume is made of woven cotton. Ethiopian men and women wear this traditional costume, they are called Gabbi or Netella. And most of the clothes that Ethiopians people wear culture clothes. In the United States people wear whatever they want. They wear different kinds of clothes. they always go with fashion, with quality clothes, new things and there is a lot different between Ethiopian and American costume. The other things is food and water.
The Ethiopian national dish is called wat. it is hot spicy what you eat it by injera. injera is made of teff, flour and water. and after eating that people from neighbor’s will be together and they will drink coffee three times after lunch. and it is a culture after lunch there is always a little coffee ceremony. in the United States you can not say there is a traditional food. because people eat different kind of food like pizza, burgers and other things. But when we say America’s traditional food most of people will remember burger. because they are good in burgers.
