Animal Abuse Research Papers

Animal Abuse is one of the biggest problems in the United States today and it is something that no one ever talks about. There are many ways that animals are getting mistreated, from animal fFighting to aAnimal Ttesting and many more things. Every day in the United States there are thousands of animals getting beaten, neglected and forced to struggle for survival. They are left in unclean places with no food or water with little to no hope of rescue. Animal Fighting is just one of the many ways that animals are being mistreated.

There are three big types fighting, and that includinges dDogfighting, Ccockfighting, and Hhog-dDog fighting. Dogfighting is the most common one in the U. S. ;, there are many government sources that estimate that there is about 16,000 dogs killed every year (CITE). As of 2008, dogfighting is felony in all fifty states but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. There are many reasons why people participate in dogfighting, the most common is money. Major dog fightingdogfighting raids have resulted in seizures of up to $500,000 and it is not unusual for $20,000-$30,000 to change hands in a single night (CITE).

Dog fights can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, dogs can suffer many injuries such as puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones and in many cases death. If the losing dog is an embarrassment to the owner it may be killed in a brutal fashion as part of entertainment. Animal testing is a big problem in the U. S. There are over 100 million animals killed each year in horrible ways such as being burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in labs all over the U. S. every year. Animal testing is a problem because many people don’t think to look to see if the product says tested on Animals.

Many times companies test products on animals for the safety of humans, but that still gives them no right to abuse and mistreat animals for the purpose of testing. There are many brands and companies that are cruelty free and they sell millions of products a year such as Anastasia Beverly Hills. Anastasia is one of the top selling makeup brands and one of the most loved simply for the fact of they don’t use animals for testing. They are a big brand and yet they still don’t use animals for testing and people still spend plenty of money buying their products.

Factory farms are probably the worst of all. Many fast food chains use these farms to buy their meat and products from. Factory farms kill the animals in inhumane ways and yet people still buy them. The U. S. raises and slaughters almost 10 times more birds than any other type of animal, approximately 8. 5 billion chickens are killed for their meat every year. Burger King is stopping factory farms one Chicken fry at a time. The chain is adopting new chicken-welfare standards to ensure the poultry isn’t bought from suppliers that abuse animals.

The animal rights group COK released an undercover video August 11 alleging animal abuse at several Tyson foods contract facilities throughout Virginia. The company has been experiencing an overwhelming amount of undercover videos over the past few years as the poultry and egg industries face increased pressure to change animal care. Tyson viewed the videos and have fired several employees, Vice President of Tyson Foods Dr. Christine Daugherty has issued a statement saying, “ We do not tolerate animal abuse and have fired 10 people who were members of this crew.

It was an obvious decision, once we were finally able to review the video”. No kill shelters seem like they are the best thing to happen instead of shelters that use euthanasia but really they are just as bad. No kill shelters are sometimes perceived to be good but in reality they are overrun with animals and not funded very well therefore causing many shelter to be filthy and overrun causing the animals to stay in their cages for months on end. When no kill shelters are filled to capacity they have two options turn away more animals than they take in or turn them away to face untimely death.

When they are turned away they are killed by people who don’t want them or dumped somewhere left to die from starvation or spend their lives homeless, unwanted. The lucky ones are sent to a shelter where they are either adopted and loved unconditionally or painlessly euthanized in the arms of professionally trained, compassionate people. There have been many instances involving no kill shelters for making animals suffer far worse than death such as the incident in Phoenix, Arizona where ABC15. com reported that authorities had seized twenty four dogs and ten cats from a self-professed animal “rescue” doing business as Wiggle Butts Dog Rescue.

There was an “extreme smell of feces and ammonia inside the property” where animals were found covered with ticks, suffering from hair loss and untreated injuries and “extremely malnourished”. Many animals were covered with feces, and their paws were stained from standing in their own waste. AZFamily. com reported than an investigation was underway and that criminal charges were being considered. Killing animals for clothing is an issue that people rarely talk about. Every year, millions of animals are killed for the clothing industry all in the name of fashion.

Many of these clothes come from Chinese Fur Farms, Indian Slaughterhouse, or the Australian Outback. There is a huge amount of suffering that goes into every piece of fur clothing, leather belt and many other clothing pieces. Chinese fur farms are the biggest farms in the fur clothing industry, there have been many undercover videos surfacing about the Chinese Fur Farms and their horrible mistreatment they do towards the animals. Videos show that many animals are still alive and struggling when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tail to skin them.

When the workers begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal’s leg, the other limbs kick and writhe. Workers then begin to stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut. When the fur is finally peeled off and over the animal’s heads, their naked, bloody bodies are thrown into a pile of those who suffered the same fate. Some are still alive when they are thrown into the pile, some are still alive for up to ten minutes after. One investigator recorded a skinned raccoon on the pile of carcasses who had just enough strength to lift his bloodied head and stare into the camera.

Animals used for entertainment purposes are often mistreated and kept caged for months. Thousands of animals are forced to perform silly, confusing tricks under the threat of Physical Punishment. Many are carted across the world in cramped and stuffy boxcars or semi-truck trailers, often in barren and filthy enclosures and they are separated from their families; all for “entertainment”. Many animals pay with their own lives. One of the saddest places to do this is none other than the family friendly SeaWorld.

SeaWorld Ex-Employee Sarah Fischbeck said, “If people knew what I know, or saw what I have seen, they wouldn’t sell another ticket”. She has expressed the mistreatment and the cramping of the animals. Many of SeaWorld’s animals turn to in-fighting as a result of the cramping and stress of captivity, but Fischbeck said the orcas had it worst of all. Trainers have previously reported that SeaWorld dosed the Orcas with Valium to try to keep them calm. Fischbeck confirmed it and said that the belugas and dolphins were also being drugged, and that the dosages were openly displayed in the trainers room.

Some Orcas were kidnapped and sent to SeaWorld, five orcas currently at SeaWorld were kidnapped from their ocean homes. For example, Tilikum, a thirty two year old orca, was captured at the age of two by a marine “cowboy”. Tilikum was taken away from his family against his will and confined to a small concrete tank for a hefty profit. Orcas in captivity have a shorter life expectancy than those in the wild, their estimated life span is sixty to seventy years for males and eighty to a hundred years for females. The median age for orcas in captivity is only 9.

The worst of all is the cramped and unnatural living conditions, but even with the stress that the small tanks cause the orcas, SeaWorld had no problem taking away more space away from them after the 2010 death of Dawn Brancheau. After her death SeaWorld installed a $70 million lift floor in the bottom of the B pool, with a push of the button the entire floor is lifted up to the surface. After the installation it left the whales with even less space than before, Fischbeck said that at least one whale,Ulises, can’t even go nose to tail in the pool, which is around 15 feet deep.

That have being said Animal Abuse is one the United States biggest problems and it is something that needs to be dealt with. There are many more animal abuse stories and many more ways animals are being abused, but if we don’t help stop this now there are gonna be ten times as many things that you are gonna be hearing about. There are a few good things to come out of this such as Barnum and Bailey Circus closing down and SeaWorld having their last generation of orcas in captivity.
