As a center axis set, also an axial, symmetrical and centered set, a text is designated whose lines are centered on the center. This means that the individual text lines are centered on a central axis. The distance between the text and the column edge is thus identical on the left and on the right. In language usage, however, the formulation of a text is more common. The center axis set is also a form of the flutter set, because the individual text lines are not flush, but flutter at the sides and thus have a staircase structure.
The medium-sized set is sometimes used in the design of poems, but is also used for shorter texts, such as thank-you notes, greeting cards, certificates, advertisements or similar. For longer passages, however, such an axial set is unsuitable since the legibility suffers from the representation. The first verses of Goethe’s Osterspaziergang would look like this as follows. The center axis set centers a text – in the example it is a poem
In the example above, it is clear what is the basic principle: the individual text lines are centered on the axis, have the same distance to the end of the column on the left and right, and are not flush, but flutter. In this context, fluttering means that the individual lines run out unevenly and the initial letters (or last letters) are not interrelated.
Application of the center axle set
Most of the texts are in the Rauhsatz, Blocksatz or in the Flattersatz, which however is rather untypical for the German language. In contrast, the center axis set is used in nearly every language, but is usually only suitable for shorter text passages, since otherwise the readability suffers.
Consequently, this sentence is found mainly in letters of thanksgiving, greeting cards, lyric articles, but also in commercial texts. Furthermore, it is a common means when single words or concise word sequences are arranged on one side in order to align them centrally (eg documents, certificates, etc.).
In addition, such an axial set is often used in headings, and is mainly used as the heading of the title page of a newspaper, since it is a strongly dividing element which is conspicuous and thus more quickly attracts the attention of a possible addressee. In addition, this effect is often enhanced by the use of majuscules (uppercase letters).
Short overview: The most important part of the term at a glance
A middle axis set is a text whose center lines are centered. This means that the individual text lines are centered on a central axis. This form of presentation is often used in poems, but is also recommended only for shorter text passages, since otherwise the legibility of a text can suffer.
