The Sainte-Chappelle a smaller church then the Notre Dame is a masterpiece of French gothic style. It is located on a courtyard of the present Palace of Justice. Sainte-Chappelle was originally part of the former royal palace. Louis IX wanted a shrine for his valuable relics; among those were the crown of thorns of Jesus Christ, and a splinter of the
Holy Cross. The chapel was built between 1245 and 1248. The Louvre is considered to be one of the finest museums in the world it contains so many different pieces of art that it would take three days to see all of it. Artist who have created such amazing art as Picasso’s le vieux Guitariste, Michelangelo’s Angel Holding A Candelabrum, and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa have their masterpieces on display in the incredible museum. The origins of the Louvre date back to the 1200’s when Philippe August began construction of a fortress on the anks of the Seine. This original construction was less than a quarter of the present Cour Carre on the eastern end of the Louvre.
The city of Paris is over 2,000 years old. The Gauls of the Parisii tribe settled there between 250bc and 200bc, and became a fishing village. Julius Caesar later conquered the people of this tribe in 52bc. In the year 987 the count of Paris Hugh Carpet, became king of France, and under his rule and his successors the Capetians the city became known as the nations capital. The people of
France rebelled against the government in1789, which led to the French Revolution. Today Paris is looked at as a thriving city, filled with art music and the latest styles in fashion. They are considered the trendsetters of the rest of the world, and according to the latest fashion alerts the mini skirt is back in style as is Japanese kimono- like clothing. Next season they expect colors to spread to an even wider scale beside the normal black and white, warm colors like orange and green along with brown and tan are what’s hot!!
