Jane Eyre Essay

Jane Eyre is worthy of the reader’s respect because she survived and triumphed over almost impossible odds. She lost her parents to a deadly disease at a very young age, so she was forced to live with her Aunt Reed who mistreated and abused her. Jane wasn’t loved throughout her life until she went to Thornfield. I believe Jane contains the qualities of a role model. Jane is a role model because she showed passion, persistence, and morality throughout her life. Jane showed such passion throughout her life. She always talked about not being able to live without it. She showed passion through caring for Adele.

She cared for Adele as if she were her own child. She was also very passionate with Mr. Rochester, for example, when Mr. Rochester told Jane that he was going to be married and that she had to leave and then he asked her to stay and live with him and his wife. She replied, “Do you think I can stay to become nothing to you? Do you think I am an automaton? – A machine with out feelings? And can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? -You think wrong!

To me, I think that she is saying that she wouldn’t be able to live with him and his wife because she loves him so much! Jane also showed persistence throughout the book by never giving up at anything. Throughout her life she went through extremely difficult times, such as being mistreated by her aunt, she never gave up! When her best friend, Helen, was very sick and dying, Jane never left her side. Even though Jane was told to leave Helen alone, she remained and said to Helen, “I’ll stay with you dear Helen no one shall take me away. ” Another quality Jane possessed was morality. Most all of her decisions were carefully made.

She never comprised what she believed to be the moral thing to do. For example, when she found out Mr. Rochester was a married man, she ended her relationship with him, immediately. She resumed her relationship with him only after his wife had died. Throughout the story she was challenged with many dilemmas, but always seemed to make the correct decision. Jane is a role model because she showed such passion, persistence, and morality. Throughout the book, these qualities and more, are demonstrated time and time again. This is a good book to set a positive example and be enjoyed by young women.
