It Is Worth It To Dream Misty Copeland, now a soloist at American Ballet Theatre, started with almost nothing. Even though Misty was encouraged to quit dancing by her own mother because they couldn’t afford it and she wasn’t spending enough time with her family, she never gave up. Throughout the Dream Unit, we have learned about the stories of many people and about how their dreams did or did not come true. It is completely worth it to dream because no matter the outcome, we will have improved from where we started, we will push ourselves to work our hardest, and dreams can come true.
Undoubtedly, even if we do not achieve our intended goal, we will have improved from where we started. This is stated very clearly in many wise quotes, including one by Les Brown. “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars. ” In this quote, Les Brown is saying that no matter the outcome in our situation, we will be higher and more experienced than when we started. Even if our dream does not work out, we didn’t work that hard for nothing. He is saying that it was worth it to dream because something good always comes out of dreaming.
Although dreams may not turn out how we expected, something good will still come out of it. Obviously, when we have a dream, we will push ourselves to work our hardest. Many people who are now famous, including J. K. Rowling, did not get to where they are today easily. Motivationgrid says, “… It was rejected dozens of times until finally Bloomsbury, a small London publisher, gave it a second chance after the CEO’s eight year-old daughter fell in love with it. ” In this situation, J. K. Rowling did not get her extremely successful Harry Potter series published for a long time.
She went to lots of different publishers looking for someone to give her a chance. It was not an easy journey for Rowling, but since she never gave up, her books are now read and loved by many people around the world. It will no doubt be difficult to achieve our dreams, but we will never have a chance to achieve them if we don’t push ourselves to work our hardest. The best reason it is worth it to dream is dreams can come true. At least, this was the case for Susan Boyle when she auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent.
When Susan walked into the competition, no one thought she even had a chance. But, when she sang that first note, the whole audience was amazed. Because she had an amazing voice, the judges moved her on to the next round. Misty Copeland dreamed for almost her whole life about dancing for American Ballet Theatre. Although Misty had a hard time getting there, she eventually made her way to a soloist for ABT. Susan Boyle and Misty Copeland proved that dreams can come true, no matter what anyone else thinks.
If we work hard and never give up on our dreams, they can come true. On the other hand, there are millions of people who have been disappointed because their dreams didn’t work out. In The Pearl, Kino had lots of dreams about how his life would change for the better because of his breathtaking pearl. He dreamed about all the magnificent things the pearl would do for him and his family including bringing them enormous wealth. In the end, none of Kino’s dreams came true and his only child was shot and died.
Not only was Kino extremely disappointed because the pearl didn’t have a positive impact on his life, he was also depressed because his only child was killed as a result of his dreams. In Of Mice And Men, George and Lennie had dreamed almost their whole lives of buying their own ranch and tending to rabbits. Instead of living happily ever after like they had imagined, George killed his good friend Lennie so neither of them got what they wanted. There’s no denying how awful these characters felt when their dreams that once seemed in the palms of their hands were suddenly miles away.
But, if no one ever dreamed, how would we know what could have happened? What if we could achieve our goal and be amazed of our accomplishments? What if our dreams could change the world? It would be a shame if someone in the world could achieve something great, but they never tried because they were too afraid of being disappointed. Like Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it. ” In the end, there are many people throughout the world that have achieved life changing dreams affecting their lives and the lives of others positively.
Therefore, it is extremely worth it for everyone to dream. Dreaming advances us from where we began, encourages us to work as hard as we possibly can, and dreams can be accomplished. Yes, there is no doubt that if dreams don’t work out how everyone wants them to we will be disappointed. But, no matter what the outcome is, we will have learned from our dream experience and will never have to live with the dreadful question of “what if. ” Let’s not just stand there; let’s be like Misty and dance toward our dreams!
