The proverb that is being researched is “If there is no wind, row” (Roman). Another good way to put this proverb is if something is not in your favor, find another solution. This proverb came from Ancient Roman times, and from this time the roman people were in their golden age when people were figuring out new advanced knowledges and army tactics, so if the roman military was figuring out how to expand, we can assume that the Roman Army was living by this proverb.

This can be relatable to modern day life right now because most things don’t work out, people can find different solutions that either more time consuming or more physically strenuous. This proverb is important to live by, this can be shown through being a problem solver, being hardworking by inventing new things, using useful resources, and being head on with who or what you’re facing. Socrates was a philosopher who spread his teachings to solve everyday problems, from his teaching he can show that he lives by this proverb.

People learning from Socrates, learned that Socrates used problem solving to show that he was knowledgeable. This quote describing Socrates states, “Socrates used questioning to find the answer” (Huffman). This quote ties in with knowledgeable because he used this method to solve life problems for people to come up with a solution. People can also say that from this that he was very intelligent. Socrates was a philosopher so since philosophy is the study of knowledge, he had a better input on what are ongoing problems during that time.

From a historian, she states that “believed to have a better understanding on life problems” (Huffman). This can show that Socrates was a wise person back then, mainly because he knew that the Athenians had a hard time with solving normal everyday problems. This quote can also prove that he was a great philosopher with along the fact that he was wise. In order to show that he knew how to express his ideas and be confident about his teachings. This quote is describing Socrates and it states, “Socrates soon showed them that their beliefs to solve problems were contradictory or confusing” (Huffman).

This quote shows that Socrates had to be confident with his teachings even though most or some people might not agree with his teachings. This can prove that during his time he was a great teacher so he can spread his knowledge to other people who accepted his philosophies. From these quotes, this proverb is something that Socrates can live by during his life. Thomas Alva Edison was an inventor who made new things and who also made improvements to knew things, from his hard work, this proverb is something that Thomas Edison lives by. Thomas Edison was very productive during his lifetime.

This quote from Judith Baughman, she states, “Edison and his associates spent months trying to find a way to get the light bulb to last longer” (Baughman). This quote proves that Edison was hard working because he tried to improve the light bulb for months. Edison was also known for taking old inventions better which the light bulb is during this time. Consistent is another word used to describe Edison. This quote was used to describe Edison and his workers, “Each project Edison had took him 6 months almost to 2 years” (Baughman). This quote can prove that Thomas Edison is able to work for lengths of time to find the solution.

This can also prove that when Edison works he gets projects done as soon as possible. Edison was very innovative to other inventors and people. This quote states “Edison was one of the greatest inventors and technological innovators in history” (Baughman). Thomas is proved to be an innovator from this quote because he was able to come up with new ideas. This can also prove that Thomas Edison was very creative when coming up with new projects. This inventor proved that from his works and projects that he lives by this proverb and proving he is a hard working man.

This piece of literature which is a poem, was made by an author by the name of Larson who describes an old man using a comb to hide his age and other feelings he has. An old man getting older and trying to find ways by using his comb to hide is age. From this poem this man says “… combs his hair back to hide the things he can hide” (Larson). This quote shows that this man is self conscious and tries to hide things that can be hidden with a comb. This quote can also show that this man isn’t comfortable with himself. This man also proves that the comb is useful to hide his gray hairs.

He says in the poem “I comb the gray to know my own alert” (Larson). This man is trying to give the appearance of being young which is what this quote can prove. Old people tend to do this when people get old and they will not accept it. The man realizes to himself that he is doing this to look younger with a comb. He states “to truth’s contraction, without haste’s overt” (Larson). This quote shows that he knows he’s doing this to look young and he will anything to be younger. He’s trying to maintain his fine and dandy image that he once had long ago and he’s not happy he doesn’t have his image anymore.

This poem shows that this man is becoming older but being resourceful and trying to use a comb to hide his gray hair. Over the years Barack Obama is coming up on the end of his second term and the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton become a very violent, head on debate. When the First Presidential Debate they go head to head for the first time. In a news report it states, “Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton went head to head Monday night in the first presidential debate” (Herald). This quote from the news article can prove that these two candidates will not be very friendly to each other.

Also can prove that the during the next two debates that they can be more violent and more merciless. These two candidates throw punches at each other with words. During the Second Presidential Debate Hillary Clinton starts off saying “Well actually, I have thought about this quite a bit. ” Donald Trump’s response is by saying “Yeah for thirty years” (Herald). Throwing punches at each other through words can be proven in this quote. During the debate they say some other things that prove that they both are head on with each other to win the debate.

Also during the Second Presidential Debate of 2016, Hillary can be proven to be short tempered. During the second debate Donald Trump says “Why not? ” then Hillary Clinton says “Why not? No one can believe these crazy things you say! ” (Herald). This quote can prove that Hillary within the second debate sort of lost her cool and lashed out on Trump in the second debate. This can prove that Hillary could not be fit for a president if she can lose her cool that easily. So at the end of Obama’s second term, the two candidates will continue to be head on in the last debate until one gets elected president. If there is no wind, row” (Roman) is being researched.

This is important to remember because this can be proven useful to someone’s life through by four figures and a story. This should urge the audience to find new solutions if solving things seem impossible, going against the opponent head on, find essential items to solve those problems, and use hard work and dedication to solve life problems. Looking up to these important figures, this proverb is important to live by for hard work, problem solving, being resourceful, and being head on.
