Essay on Irresponsibility In Shakespeares Romeo And Juliet

William Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are a young couple with rivaling families that fall in love also known as the star-crossed lovers. They go through many challenges in their relationship but in the end, it leads those challenges to their deaths. They both express irresponsibility through their impulsive and rash actions that contribute to their deaths but there are a couple of characters throughout the play that helps lead Romeo and Juliet to their deaths. In the end, there are many characters to take fault for both Romeo and Juliet’s Death.

In William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet’s death are to blame by Friar Laurence, The Rivalling families, and Tybalt Capulet. First, Friar Laurence to blame for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence is represented in the play as a holy man who is trusted and respected by all of the other characters. He acts like a friend and an advisor to both Romeo and Juliet. He is the one who married Romeo and Juliet together and helped them through all the challenges they had to face along the way before both of their deaths.

Because of this he takes responsibility and is to blame for both Romeo and Juliet in many ways. “So smile the heavens upon this holy act/That afterhours with sorrow chide us not! ” (Act 2 scene 6, line 1-2). In this quote, Friar Laurence is marrying Romeo and Juliet. He is saying that heavens are happy with this marriage and so that nothing unfortunate happens later to make us regret this decision. Friar this whole time was helping Romeo and Juliet be in this hard relationship that would never have worked out but he still helps hem. Because of this, he is to take fault in their deaths because of the many mistakes he made one being marrying them. If Friar didn’t help and approve of the relationship they could not have died the tragic way they did.

Another reason that Friar is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death is when he found out Romeo didn’t get the letter. “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood,/ The letter was not nice but full of charge,/ Of dear import, and the neglecting it/May do much danger. Friar John, go hence. Get me an iron crow and bring it straight/Unto my cell. ” (Act 5, scene 2, line 17-22). In this quote, Friar finds out that Romeo did not get the letter telling him the plan but instead of making sure he knows it he just tries to get Juliet instead. In conclusion, Friar Laurence makes many mistakes while trying to help Romeo and Juliet and because of this, he is to blame for both Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Secondly, the families rivalries are to blame for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet.

In the play, Romeo’s family, the Montagues, and Juliet’s family, The Capulets, hate it each other. They have had this huge feud between the two families for awhile because of this Romeo and Juliet are forbidden to be together which leads them to keep their relationship a secret and ultimately to their deaths. “Thy tempest -tossed body. —How now, wife? / Have you delivered to her our decree? / Ay, sir, but she will none, she gives you thanks. /I would the fool were married to her grave! ” (Act 3, scene 5, line 137-140).

In this quote, Lady Capulet and Capulet are not unsupportive of Juliet’s actions and are forcing her to get married to Paris which is something that she doesn’t want and is not ready for. Because of this makes her go to Friar Laurence and talk to him where he and she make up the plan for her to be happy and together with her husband. But that goes wrong and ultimately that leads to her and Romeo’s death. If the capulets weren’t so supportive and in this feud, with the Montagues, Romeo and Juliet would never have tried to keep this secret and ultimately kill themselves for each other.

In the end, the Montagues and the Capulets rivalry against each other ultimately lead to their kid’s deaths. Finally, Tybalt Capulet is to blame for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt is known as the main antagonist in Romeo and Juliet. He is Juliet’s cousin who has a very short temper, loves to fight and who has cocky tough personality. In the play, Tybalt starts a fight with Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend. Which kills Mercutio and makes Romeo fight Tybalt and kill him and leads to Romeo’s banishment.

Because of his banishment leads to the awful plan that Friar and Juliet make up which goes wrong leading to the lover’s death. “Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford/No better term than this: thou art a villain… Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries/ That thou hast done me. Therefore turn and draw. ” (Act 3 scene 1, line 59-65). In this quote, Tybalt is saying that Romeo is a villain and that’s the only thing he will call him and that his words have done no harm to him and so now turn and draw your sword. This makes Romeo already madder and after Tybalt killing his best friend.

Romeo gives in and fights Tybalt killing him and Romeo being banished. Because of Tybalt’s short tempered cocky personality, it caused Romeo to kill which ultimately also kills Romeo and Juliet. In the end, Tybalt Capulet cocky short tempered personality kills him and both Romeo and Juliet. Some might say that Romeo is to blame for his own and his wife, Juliet’s death. While that is true Romeo isn’t the one who should be blamed. In this play Romeo and Juliet are very young, still teenagers learning and exploring the world and new things.

Romeo is a very passionate and quick thinking person who doesn’t think about his feelings and decisions before he makes them leading to stupid dangerous outcomes. Because of this Romeo falls in love with Juliet rushes their relationship, gets married, gets banished, Juliet making this plan to be with him, Romeo killing himself, then Juliet killing herself. Because Romeo and Juliet are so young they don’t really understand what they have done and they affect it had on everybody you cared on them. Romeo is not to blame for his and Juliet’s death.

He was just following his heart and somebody close to him, older, and who he trusted like Friar Laurence should have told them to slow things down with Juliet and not make stupid decisions which could have kept Romeo and Juliet alive. So in the end. Romeo really isn’t to blame for his own death even though he killed himself he’s just a young passionate kid who should have had a mentor or friend helping him through this time. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet were two young kids who weren’t supposed to be together but fell in love and ultimately killed themselves so they can be together.

People say that Romeo and Juliet are to blame for their own deaths because they killed themselves but Romeo and Juliet are just young teenagers as young as thirteen who needs an adult that they trust to tell them right from wrong and help them through rough times. Romeo and Juliet didn’t have that which lead them to make mistakes and kill themselves but it was not here faulted. In the end, Friar Laurence, the rivaling families, and Tybalt Capulet are to blame for both Romeo and Juliet’s tragic deaths.
