The daily life of a monk consist of waking up at 4:00 A.M. a monk will hit a gong to get everyone up. The monks will meditate for one hour then chant for one hour. At 6:00 A.M. monks walk barefoot in town while townspeople offer them merit by giving them food. At 8:00 A.M. monks go to the temple together to eat breakfast, then make a blessing for world peace. Before 12:00 P.M. some monks choose to eat a light lunch. This is the last solid food they are allowed to eat until the next morning. At 1:00 P.M. classes in Buddhist teaching start. Some monks may go to school outside of the temple. At 6:00 P.M. a two hour session of meditation and prayer begins. At 8:00 P.M. the monks leave to go do homework.
