There are many benefits to reciting Surah Ikhlas, as it is one of the most important chapters of the Quran. Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that this chapter is equivalent to one-third of the Quran. It is also known as the “Mother of the Quran” due to its importance.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said that whoever recites Surah Ikhlas 10 times, Allah will build a palace for him in Paradise. Additionally, those who recite it 100 times will have all their sins forgiven and those who recite it 1000 times will receive special intercession from Muhammad on the Day of Judgment.
There are many other benefits that have been reported from the recitation of Surah Ikhlas. These include increased knowledge and wisdom, protection from evil, and guidance on the straight path. Surah Ikhlas is truly a powerful chapter of the Quran that every Muslim should make an effort to recite regularly.
The great benefit of the one who recites Surah Ikhlas frequently: It is a method to go to Paradise, and Allah builds homes in Paradise for the recitor. It is a means of obtaining the love of Allah, increasing one’s Rizq, and reciting Surah Ikhlas when coming home is that poverty will be removed. It is a method of forgiving sins, it is a method of enhancing angelic presence at death time.
It was narrated from Muhammad ibn Zayd that the Messenger of Allah said: “The one who recites Qul huwal-lahi ahad ten times, Paradise will become obligatory for him.”
In another narration it is mentioned that Muhammad said: “Whoever recites Qul huwal-lahi ahad 100 times during the day and night, will have a reward like that of freeing 70 slaves, and his sins will be forgiven even if they were as much as the foam on the sea.”
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Muhammad said, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is! There is no surah in the Qur’an equal to ‘Qul huwal-lahi ahad’ in respect of the blessings it contains and in respect of the excellence it has over other surahs. It is equivalent to one third of the Qur’an.”
Muhammad ibn Nasr, Muhammad ibn Ja`far and Abu Hazim reported: We were sitting with Ibn `Abbas when a bedouin came and said: “O Abu Al-Fadl! Teach me a Surah which I may recite every night.” Thereupon he (Ibn `Abbas) said: “Recite Surah al-Ikhlas thrice for it is equivalent to one third of the Qur’an.”
Know that reciting Surah Ikhlas is a method of God’s love becoming yours, and when He loves you, Jannah becomes fard upon you or saints are made for you. When someone loves Surah Ikhlas, Allah also likes them.
There is a Hadith in which a Sahabi kept reciting Surah Iklas ad infinitum because he was so fond of it, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) inquired about his motivation for doing so. He answered, ‘I just like reading it because it has the characteristics of the most compassionate. The Messenger of God (s) then stated: “informed him that Allah loves him.”
Surah Iklas is so important Muhammad (s.a.w) said, ‘By Him in whose Hands my soul lies, it equivalent to one third of the Qur’an.'(Tirmidhi). Surah ikhlas is also known as Umm Al-Qur’an or Mother of the Qur’an.
The recitation of Surah Ikhlas is a blessed act which has many rewards and virtues associated with it. The following are some of the benefits that have been mentioned in hadith:
1) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad once Allah will record the reward of reading the whole Quran ten times.
2) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad ten times, Allah will record the reward of reading the whole Quran one hundred times.
3) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad a hundred times, Allah will record the reward of reading the whole Quran one thousand times.
4) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad for twelve years (without missing a day), a palace of gold will be built for him in Paradise.
5) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad once, Allah will send an army to fight on his behalf (to defend him).
6) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad three times when he wakes up in the morning, nothing can harm him that day.
7) Whoever reads Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad three times when going to sleep at night, Allah will protect him from the Shaitan (Devil) till morning.
Some hadiths emphasize the benefits of Surah Al Ikhlas. It is considered that reciting this Surah will result in Allah gathering all of mankind’s good and evil for those who do so. It’s also thought that if someone doesn’t stop reciting this Surah, their sins will be forgiven by Allah, as well as their parents’ and children’s sins.
The following Hadith is narrated by Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh):
“By Him in Whose Hands my life is, this Surah is equivalent to one-third of the Quran.”
Another version of the same Hadith goes like this:
“This Surah has one-third of the Quran.”
In another narration, it is stated that:
“This Surah has one-third of the Quran. Recite it often for it will come as an intercessor for its reciter on the Day of Judgment.”
Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) has also said:
“There is no Surah in the Quran similar to it, or equal to it.”
(Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
In another narration, he (pbuh) said:
“There is nothing like it.”
(Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
There is also a saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which goes like this:
“Recite Surah Ikhlas as much as you can for it is equivalent to one third of the Quran.”
(Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)
The above-mentioned Ahadith and many others underline the great importance of reciting Surah Al Ikhlas. It is not only a Surah that is equal to one-third of the Quran but also has several other virtues. Allah loves those who recite this Surah and He protects them from all evil. The recitation of this Surah also helps in purifying one’s heart and soul.
