Mitty, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Vs Eckels, A Sound Of Thunder

I will be comparing the characters Walter Mitty and Eckels from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and A Sound of Thunder, respectively.

Walter and Eckels are two equally similar and different people. On the surface they appear to be quite different, but if you evaluate them more, they appear more similar then you might think. I will go in-depth on how they are both similar and different.

The biggest way that Walter and Eckels are similar is their lust for adventure. Walter spends his day daydreaming of exciting (and dangerous) situations. He wishes for a more adventurous lifestyle then the typical and boring one that he lives. His life is all around ordinary and grey, no excitement or variety. Eckels is also looking for adventure. In ASOT, he paid ten thousand dollars to join a team on a trip into the past to hunt and kill a dinosaur. There is hardly anything more exciting, adventurous and dangerous than this. However, once he sees the dinosaur, he runs away, realizing that he is not fit for doing this. This is similar to Walter in that both are looking for adventure, but are shut down when they find it. Although in very different ways and situations, they both experience the same thing more or less.

However, they do have their differences alongside this. For example, Walter never gets the chance to actually go on an adventure, simply dreaming of it. Eckels has the ability to afford to go on an adventure, where Walter has to stay at his job.

When you evaluate the two characters, you find more similarities then you find differences. Whilst they are two different people with different personalities, they face the same situations (to a certain extant) as stated above.
